Imagine a Conservapedia entry on RFC:

A purported random simulator of earth history, designed by advocates of left-wing historicists, in a game called Civilization IV which denies the ultimate direction of Christian history towards salvation and redemption. Examples of decidedly unhistoric outcomes abound. For example,
--Christianity's founding city can be destroyed by barbarians, whereas in real life these barbarians would see the light and embrace it
--the superiority of the United States can be easily subverted by a dastardly process named "squatting" with which the colonial powers can occupy the natural territory of another country, thus denying it its manifest destiny.
--one of the great scientists is named Charles Darwin
--free religion is given a lot more happiness than theocracy
--players who call themselves pacifists conquer the world under a German communist police state which has more stability than a democracy.

hey, no stealing from a website unless you cite it...

Imagine what the Fall from Heaven II's description would be...

unbelievable! Can you give me the link of the page and of the discussion?

(side note: I'm still waiting for the list I posted to be fixed)

too bad, that discussion is lost. It got deleted (I assume because it was too long/shameful etc), which incidentally means that Wikipedia isn't as "free" compared to other online pedias as some users here like to advertise. If we really needed more examples besides the persecution perpetrated against RFC and Rhye.

There are still some remnants but nothing compared to the original. My discussion on "italians mostly being direct descendants from romans" being weasel words is also lost, so I don't know my username anymore ^^

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Italians

topics: northern/sourthern appearance, appearance, appearance part 2, etc etc...

I'm in America and we don't learn this specific stuff in school (at least in 10th grade). Who is it that the Italian's descend from? Call me naive, but I always assumed it was the Romans.

It's in Western Civ 101. Remember the Celts/Lombards/Ostragoths (northern Italy), Arabs/Vikings (in southern Italy)? Greece had a lot of colonies too before the Romans. And with all the other eastern European countries joining the EU, there must be a substantial immigrant population.

OK, I'm not Italian either but my schooling taught me that Italy was invaded by many other nations after the time of the Roman empire.

Goths, Normans, Spanish, Germans, Austrians, French, just to name a few.

Imagine a Conservapedia entry on RFC:

You missed the fact that ANY NATION can discover Judaism not just Israel, proof of the designer's typical Euro-Islamist anti-Semitism. Also, what's the deal with Christianity being founded by researching (i.e. Science) rather than angelic-apostolic intervention?

Well, technically, there's always a chance that there is angelic-apostolic intervention, as the Indys may get it if no-one decides to research it in time. Just like Judaism.

Just came across this interesting map from a wiki article about Italian dialects which really illustrates the diversity of influences on the Italian peninsula and islands.

ever heard of barbarian invasions that made the Roman Empire crumble ? That is it. They slaughtered a good deal of people, and most of them weren't even Romans but Roman Citizens. Then they mixed with the local populations in subsequent waves, the most important of which were Ostrogoths, Langobards and Normans.

and they aren't even dialects. For example if a piedmontese and a sicilian both speak in dialect they won't understand one single word (no kidding).
Piedmontese alone has different "patuas" and I have trouble understanding someone speaking in dialect from Asti. Not to mention that the south-western part of Piedmont doesn't speak piedmontese dialect but occitan.

As an economist this subject arises when we look at African countries in particular: "Does ethnic/linguistic/religious diversity hinder creation of public services and civic institutions?" Based on the theory that these require trust and co-operation, which are easier in homogenous countries. I'm curious whether this is the case in Italy also? Not so much about civic institutions, but support for secession/regional autonomy, if people from Piedmont and Sicily have to speak "lingua franca" to understand each other.

What about Mussolini, he brought it together.

I think it's more like the Italien system being designed with elements of civil war imbedded in it to keep the communists out of power. Better share the power between Mafioso, Leftists, Rightists, Italian Intelligence, CIA, EU, Neo-Fascist, Judiciary etc. than to hand it to the Reds all in one piece.

well, the official language in Italy is italian, not dialects. Hence from an institutional point of view there is no problem about this, only different accents like those you can find in any country.

And I don't know what you're speaking about, TDK, with that comment. AFAIK Italy has been BY FAR the western country with the strongest communist influence.

Yes exactly! There was a fear of communist takeower, so the system was designed to resist decisions without consensus.

what system are we talking about ? :D

Second of all, I check the quote and it said:

Dynamic rise and fall of civilizations, stability management (unstable empires will risk secessions and civil wars), plague, world congresses, customized AI, unique civilization powers and world wars are the most prominent and innovative features of this mod.[32]

To me, this sounded alot like an advertisement promoting RFC. If you want to have a section added to Wiki, it must be in a neutral point of view. I would post an example later on.

Are you serious?

If that's advertising then every wiki page discussing a video game could be considered "advertising":

This is from the BtS page:

Features

Overview

Corporations: A new gameplay feature, similar to the ‘religion’ one, allows players to create corporations and spread them throughout the world. Each corporation provides benefits in exchange for certain resources.
Espionage: Now available much earlier in the game, this expanded feature offers players many new ways to spy on opponents, stir citizen unrest and defend their government’s secrets.
Random Events: New random events such as natural disasters, pleas for help, or demands from their citizens will challenge players to overcome obstacles in order for their civilizations to prosper.
Advanced Starts: When starting the game in any era, this new option allows the player to purchase components for an already-developed nation.
Expanded Space Victory: Obtaining a space victory is now more difficult and requires more strategy and decision-making than before. For example space spies.
Expanded Diplomatic Victory: It is now possible to achieve diplomatic victories much earlier in the game, and to defy resolutions.
New Game Options: Beyond the Sword offers various new game options, like new world-types and the option to play any leader-civilization combination.

I think you're just nitpicking in the extreme, if you are serious.
