Improvements with defense modifiers

Does the AI build the new improvements... previously Civ V was hard-coded to not build improvements with defense. Chateau, Fetoria (sic) both have defense modifiers... are the AI civs building them? Anyone notice?

I had jungle hill tiles that my automated workers built forts on.

That's a change... good indication the the ai will work similarly.
