I think that RFC RAND needs to have some independent cities.
Independent cities in the normal RFC were really usefull, they helped border civs like Babylon and Khmer, expanding civs like Persia and Rome (Celts), founding certain religions (Judaism and Christianity) and they were the annoying native cities (Mombasa, Chichen Itza, Mbanza Kongo, Quelimane, Tikal and Tucume). In RFC RAND those features are missed.
So here is my suggestion:
Random spawning of Independent, Native and Celtic cities:
Jerusalem will spawn in a Radius of 10-5 plots from the starting points of Babylon or Egypt, will found Judaism and maybe Christianity.
Shush and Samarqand will spawn near Persia (but not too much near).
Tyre will spawn in a random coastal area near an ancient civ, Hutussas\Gordion will be the same without the coastal city.
Celtic cities will spawn in the area between a European civ and Rome, they can found neutral cities like Singidunum (Belgrad), Turicum (Zurich) and more.
Natives will spawn in the New world continents and the almost empty "Africa" continent.
Other cities can be added and some cities can be removed or changed, this is just a suggestion.
I really hope this will be at least partially implemented, because I hate the Jewish founding Egypt\Persia and the completly random Christianity.

sounds good to me.

yep me too, this all sounds good.

Although, as ever, I'd rather have judaism replaced with zoroastrianism. If judaism remains, I think christianity should usually be founded in the same city as judaism - historically the two are are intertwined it just doesn't make sense to have separate holy cities. At the very least, it should only be founded in a city containing Judaism. Christianity is essentially a reinterpretation of Judaism, and it doesn't make any sense for it to be founded in a city with no Jews, as it usually is.

Replacing judaism, christianity and taoism with protestantism, catholicism and orthodoxy also seems like a good idea

I think Rome especially needs some nearby cities to conquer. On huge maps, it is an epic journey to take your Praetorians to the nearest neighbor. In the current form, it isn't really reasonable to meet the build goal of the Roman UHV; it would be much more doable if there were one or two Celt/independent cities close at hand.

I think another advantage of independent cities would be as a religion founding device. I have seen too many games where Christianity is founded by Arabia on spawning.

I agree! In normal CIV you see barbarian cities on 'good resource sites'. Why dont have that in RFCrand too?

What I'like to see is unique adversary for each of early civs: Assiria for Babelonia, Celts for Rome, Troy for Greece and so on. They should appear for human player only, so you don't need more than one slot.

RAND has the Celts, except I find that they are only sometimes a Roman adversary.

The barb city founding mechanic could probably be easily ported over to the independants. When it selects a location to plop down a city find out what game turn it is, nearest civs, etc and rename it on those criteria. Maybe even have some instances where several cities spawn in close proximity to represent Byzantium, Zulu, Assyria, etc.

I also love independent cities, and I think it would be great if they spawned by themselves. They'd do a great job making the map less empty in ancient times, and there could always be a Jerusalem that founds Judaism by a certain date if nobody else has it.
