India Strategy

So I started a game based on this thread. I'm enhancing Hinduism but I don't see Orthodoxy under Enhancer. I'm running VP 4-30-1. Maybe I need to update to a later version? I see Ritual (Religion spreads to Cities 20% further away.) I think this is the same as Orthodoxy. VP builds come out pretty fast, might be a good idea to note the build in the description.
Another civ could pick it already.

You’re probably correct in that the name and beliefs were changed since your version. You should update! Lots of good changes ahead for you!

Enhancers were changed in... August I think?
Orthodoxy is a stronger version of Ritual (it also encompasses bits of the old Scripture).

OK, yes. of course.

Yes I should, and I will!

Edit: just installed 5-20-3 need to read the patch notes and I will start a new game as India.

I'd recommend the most current release. If you're worried about it being a "beta", don't be- there isn't a whole lot of difference between beta releases and official releases.

IMO the newest release with the newest changes is always the most interesting to play.

@crdvis16 I think you shouldn't have went both Fealty and Artistry for a Cultural Victory. Artistry is great for hidden antique sites and Rationalism would really help you to tech quicker to have easy time with wonders and reach technologies that boost tourism faster. What difficulty do you play?

Playing on Immortal these days.

I'm just not sure this strategy in general is as good as I hoped. The passive spread, no matter how high it gets, doesn't seem capable of overtaking other religions. Knowing that now I would agree that Fealty is unnecessary and going two follower beliefs and possibly orthodoxy may have been unneeded as well.

@Caracal, 2 things:
  1. As @Omen of Peace said, The change was made in August.. Updating to a patch released in May won't change anything. I recommend you use the most up-to-date version
  2. It seems you've missed the lesson of this playthrough.
  • @crdvis16 announced he was going to try playing India with Orthodoxy
  • We all tried to dissuade him from it
  • He did it anyways. He lost. He explicitly confirmed our suspicions that Orthodoxy was a bad pick for India. It's too much of a good thing (passive spread); not Middle Way approved. Bad Dharma.
TL;DR - Use the latest beta; don't pick Orthodoxy :)

OK, I'm sold, I will use the latest beta version (10-Oct I think) and NOT pick Orthodoxy when I enhance Hinduism
Or as I call it in my games. 'The Squigglies'

Im having a very interesting India game where I decided to play totally peaceful. However, Im in dire situation.

As you can see, Im sharing my continent with Spain, Shaka and Polynessia (got conquered by Spain), while Carthage ate her continent and currently being a run away. I manage to keep up Carthage in tech and try to win a science victory. However, S Pain is being a pain and declared war on me very often. I can defend just fine but I run into unhappiness everytime she declared because of war weariness and pillaged tiles. Now Carthage is about 1 tech ahead of me, but as for Policies, she about 3 policies ahead.
S PAIN:

Any thought of how I can win this?

What is the other ideology and how much do you loose if you switch? At this point i doubt Spain will ever stop attackin you except if she is at war with Carthage or better with Shaka.

Overall it seems like your only chance is some dirty tricks like declare war on Carthage in the end on hope that AI is stupid enough to use all of its aluminum on units instead of space ship parts

Carthage picked Autocracy, the rest (including myself) go Freedom. I dont think I can win this even if I change my ideology because Spain just doesnt want peace, all my trade routes to Carthage are getting pillaged and my culture and science are getting seriously reduced due to unhappiness...
I should have killed Spain from the start. She is direct counter to my religion and now she is such a pain to deal with while Carthage just sat there spamming wonder after wonder.

This is one of the resons why i always play Pangea. This type of runaways is very rare there

Spain counter India very hard since my religion cannot spread to her. Normally I could rush her very early but this game I just want to try a total peaceful game :)

Tradition-Beauty-Stonehenge India does seem really powerful. How would you go taking that game further? What other wonders would you focus on, and followup policies? Plant the engineers, or use them to grab specific wonders?

I would usually plant the first one. The next wonder I have my eye on is Hanging Gardens.

I agree with the post above to plant the first Engineer. That's quite a bit of production that early in the game. As for other Wonders, that depends on your game difficulty. If Immortal or lower, you can get a Petra too if you beeline for it or, if you don't have deserts, you can aim for Great Library or Hanging Gardens. I think, on Emperor or lower, you can actually get another Wonder on the second column of the Ancient Era techs if you are a big gambler like Temple of Artemis or such. Otherwise, Classical Age is where most of you future Wonders will be located.
