Indonesia question : do coastal tile make connection ?

As Indonesia, can I get my luxuries if I plant a settler on an island which is connected by coastal tiles to my home continent, or is the island considered as part of my continent ?

If so, it means I have to wait until the Renaissance to make use of the UA.

It's ok to use an island that shares coastal water with your mainland. I'm doing this in my current game. Just don't put two cities on the same island, or else it won't work for the second one.

as long as the city is on a unique landmass, even if it's a 1-tile city off the coast of your capital, it counts.
