Industrous civs

My understanding of industrous civs are that the produce one more shield in the center of the city and its surrounding area.

So how come when i click on a grassland i don't get a shield? Thnx

Sadly this is not correct. Industrious civs ONLY get 1 extra shields more than other civs in center square in Metropolis size cities. This is true for all versions of Civ3 - Industrious civs never worked as advertised.

I wouldn't say it's SADLY correct. Otherwise industrious would rule the earth in no time at all...
 
I dunno if 1 extra shield in size 7-12 cities would really mean THAT much.

Currently the extra shield added in size 13+ cities are hardly noticeable as that only happens once you get Hospitals in the Industrial age.

Anyway the point is that the advertised effects of the Industrious trait about extra shields in city size cities is incorrect in all official statements - and always was incorrect.
 
The increased Worker speed is very effective in the early stages of the game - while the extra shield generated in Metro's, also gives an advantage in the later stages.
1 shield isn't that much, but say you've got 30 cities - that's an extra Cavalry every three turns. Also, with the Factory/Power Plant/Iron Works updates, that shield DOES come to use :)
 
Why people keep defending obvious mistakes in the game/civilopedia is beyond me.

Industrious trait is advertised as giving extra shields in BOTH City and Metropolis size cities - it does however ONLY give extra shield in Metropolis size.

This have been in error since first release of Civ3 and when they finally do something to the trait it is not to correct that aspect but to reduce the only other benefit the trait offers. While I can see why the worker speed needed to be toned down, it is a bit annoying they don't fix the other part - either by changing the description of trait or make it work as it has always been advertised.
 
Indy civs give +1 shield in size 13+ cities(metro) and that shield can get corrupted. The true strength of indy is the extra worker performance.
 
worker performance aint that good when ur country is being over run by poultion poultion everywhere

Was that directed at me? I'm not defending anything - I'm just trying to say that the 1 shield is not unnoticeable! I agree that they should've fixed it a long time ago, and can't believe they haven't if it's been like this (in the Civilopedia) since the first release!
