Altough not as intensivly as some of you guys I do have played and modded Civ 2, 3 & now 4 and every time I do it I really like and appreciate the game. However in every version I played there is still something which annoys me a bit. I would like to call it the "inflation" of some game concepts I really like.

If you play with a few cities or are just in the dawn of a civ every resource, trade route or land-improvement means a lot to you. It could be the few amount of money which prevents you from going bankrupt or the resource which gives you a strategic military advantage. I really like this.

However if your civ grows this becomes somehow redundant (as well as the landscape becomes ugly). There is somehow always a trade route going to somewhere or a resource within the border of one of your many cities.

What is your opinion on this? Is there a mod which gives me what I want?

1 of the civs in FFH can only have 3(?) cities. The cities do get a radius of 3 instead of 2, but with only 3 you can only control so much territory (ie access to resources).

Another one you might like is Total War. It's gruelingly slow to make progress. I haven't played it past the IRON tech yet to know what it will be like later.
