Dear fellow Civ Fanatics,

I recently went against my better economic judgement and purchased Civ IV today. I ran the install, installed the Direct X components, went through the whole installation and tried running the game, only to get the seemingly common Initialization Render issue I hear many people have received. I figured I'd be okay, but I don't have an ATI video card.

I currently have the nVidia Geforce FX5200 from Chaintech, and do NOT have the funds to upgrade. What I need to know is, running at 256 MB of RAM, with this graphics card on Windows XP, how in the heck can I get this game to run? I fairly recently bought this card so I could play Superpower 2, and have no intentions of upgrading so soon on a very tight budget.

Thanks for your time.

Well, I tried it on my other machine which is a tad bit more--well, better, and has 512 MB of RAM instead. It goes through fine without the Initialize Render error, but plays only a medium blue screen (in place of the introduction movie). Then it loads the scene with the globe and cool music with "Civilization IV" on the top, but it doesn't load any options like "new game" or whatever.

I admit, the scene with the globe and the music is entertaining, but not worth $50 ;) Any help?

Edit: Alright, downloading the ungodly huge 1.54 version patch, seems this'll fix my problems.
