Since there has been endless talk on the subject of plurality decisions but no decision on plurality decisions, I think it's time we decide to make a decision. :crazyeye:

Proposed Initiative

The Plurality Decisions Act

Any single choice poll which does not state an interpretation criteria, and is not by rule subject to a specific criteria, shall be decided by designating the option receiving the most votes as binding.

Proposed Poll

Shall the Plurality Decisions Act be enacted?

Yes
No

Public poll, 4 days duration

Comments on the text of the act, or the poll to enact it, would be greatly appreciated.

Change log:
Used the wording which was suggested by donsig.
Spoiler old wording :

Any single choice poll which does not state an interpretation criteria, and is not by rule subject to a specific criteria, shall be decided by designating the option receiving the most votes as the winner. Such designation is binding.

I like it as well, most of the decisions we'll have to make will have many choices and unless we want run off votes for all of them this is the best way to do things.

I think this is worded better:

Any single choice poll which does not state an interpretation criteria, and is not by rule subject to a specific criteria, shall be decided by designating the option receiving the most votes as binding.

Feel free to use it or not. If you actually poll this I will vote against it for reasons I've already posted many times. In addition to those reasons I think this particular act is a disater waiting to happen since it institutionalizes poll interpretation clauses. Well, at least if it passes I can post an interpretation clause in my own polls saying a majority decison must be reached.

One question: Is there a rule that a poll must be subjected to a specific criteria?

One question: Is there a rule that a poll must be subjected to a specific criteria?

From the Constitution:

Article D - Elections
  1. Terms of service of all elected and appointed offices shall be determined in advance of the beginning of such term, as further defined by law.
  2. All Election and other polls in which specific individuals are chosen by name shall be private polls, and not public polls.
  3. The candidate with the highest vote total is the winner of an election poll, regardless of whether such vote total is a majority of votes cast or not.
    1. Should two or more candidates tie for the most votes, as many runoff elections shall be held as needed to resolve the election, as further defined by law.

Currently, there is no standard for how a poll is interpreted if the poll itself doesn't state what its criteria is. Some people think the highest vote total wins, others think one option should have to get more than 50% of the total vote or the poll has no binding effect at all.

This proposal would make it a rule that the highest vote total wins, unless the poll says otherwise.

Amendments to the Constitution are the legally mandated exception. They require 60% of the vote to pass.

A yes vote means that plurality decisions are binding.
A no vote means there is no decision on what is needed to make a poll binding.

A yes vote means that plurality decisions are binding.
A no vote means there is no decision on what is needed to make a poll binding.

And having no decision on what is needed to make a poll binding is our current situation. I would like to point out that this has not stopped us from polling and making decisions based on those polls nor has it delayed the game one millisecond.

I would also like to point out that this is all about what is to be binding. We really need to keep in mind that a decision does not have to be binding for it to be implemented.

I guess I missed this one -- now if it were in English... :mischief:

Any single choice poll which does not state an interpretation criteria, and is not by rule subject to a specific criteria, shall be decided by designating the option receiving the most votes as binding.

Glossary, please?

Since the ""invalidate illegal polls" is on the way, I shall vote yes.

Chieftess: I would like to help you, but I do not speak enough English; don't pay
much heed, it's just a precaution.

Best regards,

Simple answer: most votes wins and is binding. Others (well, at least one other) want it to be "the poll is not binding unless one option has a true majority (more than 50%)."

Actually, it's "Unless the poll says otherwise, the option with the most votes wins and is binding. If the poll specifies how it should be interpreted, use that."
