Innovian Succesion Game #3

I just want all the input I can get, and then I can do it asap.

I played the save, and we are at war with the Vikings (this very turn), we won the music/Great Artist Gambit (this very turn), we built the Pantheon (this very turn), we got a special health resource near Amsterdam (+3 health +1 happyness, herbal tea).

By far we lead the game 700 something against 500 something for the runner up.

Achievements this session

1. Met the Maya Civilization, added a few resource trades, all civilizations met
2. Built the Mausoleum Wonder in Utrecht (presently building Great Library
3. Improved plantation tiles, sugar, dyes, bananas and so on, we grew incredibly wealthy/fast research as the finance trait was well leveraged
4. Built the city east of Lyons as Dutchfire advised me to do
5. Brought back chariots to Rotterdam (Helpful in Viking War declared by vikings)
6. Built the Pantheon in Amsterdam (this very turn, a gift to next turnplayer)
7. Researched music first, getting the Great Artist bonus (Enjoy, I leave this as a gift to next turnplayer)
8. Was declared war on by the Vikings (another unexpected gift to the next turnplayer)
9. Presently building Great Library in Utrecht (soon finished)
10. connected iron and started to build axemen, spearmen and swordsmen, adding some military

World Rankings.

We are the superpower, #1 in all areas but military, where we are #3.
We got a superstrong development in population growth, food, culture, money and general power, and a strong development of our military.
2 of top 5 world cities are Dutch (Utrecht and Amsterdam).

I am frankly quite proud of this session, as we became 500 000 and 1 million people in these years.

Awsome, I hate tea though. Vikings shouldn't be any special problem for us since we don't have any coastal cities they can get to ASFAIK.

The artist will be for culture bombing right? Should we try and set him off in a captured city or will one of ours be useful for that?

I was thinking of culture bombing Lyons to submission, so it leaves France and joins us. I think Lyons can be flipped over time, and we avoid a French War.

Built the Pantheon in Amsterdam (this very turn, a gift to next turnplayer)
Pantheon (in Rome):

Parthenon (in Athens):

:)

Herbal tea, did that come with an event?

Yes, it came with an event. It was a 67 % chance for getting 3 health, if I invested 106 GP in it. I did risk those money, and we got jackpot.

Amsterdam may grow real big because of all this. Oh, it was probably Parthenon (Great people producer).

I've had a look at the save. For research, I suggest Construction - Metal Casting - Machinery and (you're going to love this Provo :p) Engineering. With these techs, we should be able to beat Ragnar. He has a tasty looking sub-continent of his own.

I think I'll use the GA as a bomb in Middelburg (new city) to push back Holy-Roman/French borders there and bring Lyons partly under our control.

For builds, I'm going to complete the Great Library and the two settlers we're building now, and I'll change most other cities to military to handle the Vikings.

Here I agree on the research path :) I am sometimes easy to persuade.

I agree on the Middleburg plan, the same thought hit me. I also considered to save him for Golden Age, but consider Middleburg to be such an urgent priority.Remember the mausoleum gives 50 % longer golden age.

Cultureflipping Lyons would be a way to control our lands and avert a French War.

Nice work. I'll have to try to play in this at some stage. Right now I have no time for it though, so just keep playing without me - I'll keep lurking. :)

I've played until 900 AD. We completed the Great Library and built 2 new cities. Middelburg was culture bombed and is now providing cultural problems for France. Our economy went down a bit because of the new cities, but it should be going up when these cities develop.

The war didn't go too well, but it didn't go bad either. I easily managed to beat back the Viking troops that entered our territory, but I was unable to take any city. I only lost 1 swordsman to a horse archer attack though. The city I wanted to attack had 2 promoted longbowmen, 2 catapults and 4-5 horse archers. Last turn, I spotted the first Viking axes, (combat II + Shock!). I'm thinking of withdrawing our troops for now to save some gold, and waiting for Machinery (2 turns) and macemen before we make an attack on a city. Our research should then probably head for Engineering and then some economic techs. I also bribed Isabella into declaring war on Ragnar. She hasn't done much yet, but the diplomatic bonus with her is probably worth it.

Very good work, the Vikings are tough to deal with, militaristic and all. Bringing the Spanish into the fray made perfect sense (sort of ironic knowing about the United Provinces).

I think force preservation is key until we reach force superiority. I would also like to look into building the Zeus wonder, if it is not built yet.

But it is not my turn to play, so I leave the honors to 1889 or someone else who were interested.

I'll be busy for the rest of today. I'll get to it this weekend so this is a good chance for one of you lurkers to take a whack at it.

I would also like to look into building the Zeus wonder, if it is not built yet.
It has been built somewhere IIRC.

I just realized we still need Civil Service for Maces. That should be a research priority.

Got to look over the save, here are some things I'd like to do:
  1. First off 60% of our economy is gold to pay expenses, courthouses would help. So I think we should research Code of Laws.
  2. Any chance you would support giving the city of Leiden to Spain? We don't even have workers there yet, so it’s all jungle and coast. I think Spanish culture is going to squeeze it pretty hard too. Besides I'm sure we would recover it some day.
  3. I'd like to massively improve our espionage ranking and cut science. Its seems strange that Ragnar is the tech leader, after us. I think it may be due to theft.
  4. Speaking of Ragnar, we get a general with our next victory. I would like to use him to make a 3-4 movement point chariot that could pillage any tile and retreat in the same turn. It could operate from the safety of an SOD. Pillaging should pay for some unit costs while keeping Ragnar busy in his own lands. Besides, considering our maintenance costs now capturing cities should wait.
  5. Finally we get a GP next turn, probably a scientist. I think we should use it for a golden age, which would last 12 turns for us!

1. I think we need maces first, to win the war, then we go for the courthouses (Civil Service, then Code of Laws).

2. We should probably gift Leiden away.

3. We should improve our espionage ranking and target Ragnar for that.

4. I like the idea of a serial pillager Great General, but would also contemplate a military academy in the warzone

5. Support a Golden Age, which is why I got us Mausoleum in the first place.

I also think we need to take the Barbarian city SW of Utrecht, before the Spanish do it, that must be made top priority.

1. Code of Laws is needed for Civil Service anyway.

2. I think it will pay off in the long-run, and we're cultural, so we shouldn't have to worry about that too much.

3. We could do that, but I'd still like to keep a considerable amount of research getting done.

4. I quite like Instructors actually, or military academies.

5. Golden Age sounds good, but remember to use it when we're not having too many happiness problems. Also make sure to change civics during the golden age (time it so we can adopt Bureaucracy in the GA).

We still need that barb city SW of Utrecht, I want that buffer to the Great Library and the Mausoleum.
