Hi all. I have been trying to install Civ IV on my son's computer for hours and am getting nowhere. I have unsuccessfully tried to troubleshoot this myself but havent made any progress so I was hoping someone here can help.

For starters, as soon as I launch the CD (after having gone through Install) I choose Play. I immediately get a microsoft error screen that the program can't run and would I like to send MSFT the bug report?

I cant get past this. I opened the bug report and thought I would try and paste it here but I couldnt figure out how to select and paste any of the text.

I thought I would try to uninstall and reinstall, but cant figure out how to uninstall either.

Can someone please take me by the hand and help me make my son very happy?

Thanks.

Thanks Kiwitt.

I have been looking through it. Unfortunately I a not getting back any error I can look up. It just doesnt run and then I get a Microsoft bug report that seems generic. Im not having any specific problem that I have been able to cross reference against any of the issues listed in the posts above...

BTW kiwitt - I am on Windows XP. Should I still try your method above?

Also, do you know how I uninstall Civ IV so I can start from scratch as you describe?

It will work on Win XP as well. I have been installing my games in C:\Games since win 3.0

i tried your suggestions kiwitt but am still having problems. sorry.

I am trying to install Civ4 Gold Edition. I am now getting the following error:

Sounds like a CD error ... I have noticed a few others have this problem.

Kiwitt - the game installed fine on another computer running Windows Vista that I tested it on. So I dont think the CD is the issue.

Any other ideas of how I can proceed here?
