I've installed Civ III on my dad's computer and things ran smoothly. But when I tried to install it on my own the installation gets stuck on disc one while trying to load the file BS_B02.FLC

It says the file cannot be found and asks to verify that it exists and is functional. I'm guessing there's a scratch on my disc and it won't load that specific file.

Is there a place I can download it? Or can someone possibly send me it? :[

No, no-one can send you that - it is classed as piracy.

I suggest you look in the ..civilization III\art\flics\ folder, find a file called BS_B01.flc, copy it, and rename the copy to BS_B02.flc.

It will mean that the animiated leadhead for bismark in the middle ages will look a little strange, but at least the game will work.

Surely it's not piracy if he owns a copy of the software, or license, or whatever the legal phrasing is.

My cd is pretty scratched and I often have to make several attempts when reinstalling due to '..does not match the setup's .cab file..'. However, I keep trying until I only have to 'ignore' insignificant things which I don't mind applying your suggested remedy to.

It's a shame others like us can't just ask for the individual file to have a perfect install. Seems to me if someone wanted to blag the whole program, file by file, with this ruse, they'd be pretty easy to spot.

Oh well, if it's legal stuff, there's not much can be done about it.

It's not that we don't want to believe him / give him the benefit of the doubt, but face it. On an anonymous internet forum, how hard is it to sound like a vexed, but honest, player who seems to have a scratched disk? Even if you really have a pirated copy that has a screwed up file. (Nothing personal, by the way.) We can't tell, and we have a zero-tolerance policy towards piracy. So we prefer to err on the side of caution.

Ah! That does make sense now. Darn them jolly rogers, ruin everything.

Seriously, that's fair enough. I bet there's loads of disreputable sources where one can get a dodgy and slightly corrupt version of Civ, then it only takes one trip to CFC.com by however many freeloaders to severely spoil it for the industry. After all, if it weren't for decent people who actually BOUGHT games, we wouldn't have the quality we so take for granted.

I have same problem but i have it with the soundfile morphbuilding, and it's asking if I can verify the file. I followe the instructions of copying a file but when I rename it says that there is already a copy of that file, choose a different name. please help.

nevermind, I hit retry then played the file in question then it worked.
