Installation woes

Following the installation of one of the more recent patches I was given an "Illegal operation" message while loading Civ 3. I tried reinstalling Civ 3 using the "Reinstall" option in the Civ 3 load-up menu but to no avail. I then tried uninstalling Civ 3 but for some reason or other I would end up at a "Maintenance complete" screen without the game having been removed from my HD. So I simply deleted the folder. When I returned to the load-up menu there were options for uninstalling and reinstalling Civ 3, but none for installing. I tried the former two options but they led nowhere. I also tried rebooting but to no avail. If anyone could throw me some helpful advice it would be much appreciated.

I had the same problem and I installed the game to another computer and then copied/writed the files to empty CD and then I copied the files to Civ3 Folder and It ran fine.
But thats only if you have 2 computers near and in a writing CD-ROM drive in that another
