Installed a Patch, now can't pull up the game.

I am a fairly computer dumb, new Civ4 player. I have been playing the game just fine until I searched for updates and it suggested to install a patch, 174 i think? then when I tried to open the game it says "the program can't start because D3DX9_32.DLL is missing from your computer, try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." However, when I go to the add remove programs it will not let me uninstall the program to reinstall. it says " Error {5004 : 0x80041f42} has occurred while running the setup. Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed all other applications"? Help!! I feel like an idiot here. I love this game and now I've screwed it up???

You are in the Civ V technical support... Not sure but does Civ IV have multiple patches? May need to install one before 174. Really don't know.

Google the driver D3DX9_32.dll and find out what it does. Also maybe repost in Civ IV technical support.

You are in the Civ 5 section, but to answer your question, install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft

If no one pointed it out, i would not have noticed it at the first moment, because the DirectX problem can also happen to Civ5.
