Installed 'wrong' on my computer?

I have Windows 7, and installed Civ 4-Warlords. I've played fine for now, finding my game in the games folder on my computer.

But as I've gotten into Civ (i.e. neglecting all facets of my life in an obsession for Civ4), and really want to download a couple mods.

Here's my problem:
I've downloaded and mods, but when I click on its icon to install it, it says it can't find my Civ4 folder (hasn't been installed on this computer). When I manually go to pull up my Civ4 folder, I also can't find it. I've installed, and routinely play it. But where is it? Why can't I install my mods?

Any ideas? I truly, truly, truly want to play some mods.

Perhaps I should rephrase-

I installed my Civ4, but the mod installer won't find it. Nor can I find it's actual file, only the icon on the Games folder of MS Windows 7.
