Is Firaxis using outsourced employees whose main language isn't English ? Well, I'm not a native English speaker myself, but I still find switching "its" with "it's" almost as grotesque as "they're" with "there". Mind you, this is a screen that Civ5 players are bound to see many times in-game.

While it's not my intention to preach, the fact is that it's bad enough that today's education system has so many problems and that the younger generations do things like this while typing messages in their Facebookz and Twitterzs. We shouldn't have a professional company who release multi-million-dollar products, mostly for young people, give the wrong example when it's so easy to avoid it.

It's not a technical bug, but it's a serious linguistic one and would take a few seconds to fix along with the difficult ones in a future patch. Here's the suggestion. :p

Don't complain. This is the modern progressive system at work here. Fighting the proggies only makes things worse.

Even strong and experienced editors who know better have an error rate. It doesn't seem proportional to make this condemnation.

Also, the whole "kids these days and their newfangled media" argument is about as old as clay tablets.

Perhaps it's actually meant to read as "My kingdom will always remember [that] it's [the] true king [of nations] regardless of your petty victory".

Oh man, this is gonna bug me. I'm already bugged out that the translation for the English speakers (Washington & Lizzy) isn't accurate. Lizzy will say "By the Grace of God, your days are numbered." but the translation might translate to, "Very well."

I stand by my comment. Proper grammar or proof reading are not hallmarks of the progressive system.

Yeah, and the perfect conservative school system exists only in an absurd fantasy version of the past. Take off your antique rose glasses. The education system varies so much between counties and states and nations that "progressive" doesnt really refer to anything meaningful. Are you well off? Did you go to boarding school? Do you live in a county with a good tax base? Those are more relevant than "progressivism."

Besides, public schools are one of the original Progressive ideas.

That's giving it the old college try! :D

Of course, the OP is correct about the grammatical mistake. I am not sure it rises to the level of serious linguistic error, such as "All your base are belong to us." However, I agree that the mistake may be glaring to persons alert to such things. Although the common misuse of "its/it's" doesn't bother me, I admit to being annoyed by similar confusions, such as "your/you're."

Thanks to this thread, I will now I will be proofreading whatever the leaders say to me.

At least the leaders are not like, "hey, dude", like, they were going like "yo, dude"...

In my dictionary (Encarta) it's is a contraction for "it is" while the possessive of it is its! By that authority Firaxis is correct and the OP is not.

NO.

The "true king" belongs to "My kingdom", "My kingdom" possesses the "true king", therefore it must be "its", not "it's".

Sorry. I got confused by Camikazi's post.

Yes, it is the possessive and not the contraction. Thanks for calling my attention to my error.

My first sentence of my earlier post is correct. Therefore, the second is incorrect.

Interesting interpretation but besides being a bit farfetched how can a kingdom be king? Sovereign would seem to be more appropriate if that were the intention.

Not in England they're not.

The terminology is different in England, from what I understand. When I refer to "public schools" I'm referring to state-run schools that you don't have to pay tuition for. Anyway, I don't know much about the English school system beyond that.

It is an error and it does look unprofessional when seen in an official product, but I see this more each day. It`s not hard to pass a store or some product and find terrible spelling, grammar, yet these guys actually have college\Uni qualifications!

I think Tutors now have the attitude of, "Well it looks like the student knows what she`s talking about even though I can barely read the essay, so I`ll give her an A, or she will get upset and say I`m ruining her life!"

Well, then you'll appreciate it when I call that nonsensical hyperventilation. Which isn't surprising given the purported source.

I appreciate that you are able to, at least in the Internet, stand up and say what you think. What I think of what you think, I will not say here... maybe in person. You know, face to face... some day. :D

Well, if you ever climb your way up to Hawaii, I'll buy you a beer.

Done.

(In fact, it's the most likely next family vacation... :D)

A beer = a KEG of beer in my lexicon... prepare your wallet.
