Slavery's bad after you know democracy. Ditto for castes. Then again nationhood/police state's bad once you know liberalism, but that doesn't prevent it from have a HUGE stability bonus.

I used to use environmentalism a lot for my spaceship victories. It's good because you can have large cities, it doesn't run the risk of great depression (I got them as America even in the old patches, since I love lumbermills), and you can found corporations. (Mercantilism has a bug that you can't found corporations, even though it's your own corporation once you found it).
