I think this website is very interesting:

By entering any country, it appears positioned in the center of thescreen and in the year following its creation.
It allows to generate sequences of years and save or submit your URL to friends, or embed the sequence in a blog.
And clicking on each country we refer to the relevant information in Wikipedia or Britannica online.

I don't really like their portrayal of Personal Unions, particularly in the cases of England-Scotland and Castilla-León-Aragón. It really oversimplifies things (Poland-Lithuania too).
