Well, this is something I just discovered today. In Civilization, the game allows you to build a cottage on any tile with at least 1
as a base yield. Traditionally, this included plains, grassland, tundra, and grassland hills. However, Ancient Forests, which add 1
to the tile, count toward this limit, since I just managed to build a cottage on a plains hill because of this. I'm assuming if you get an Ancient Forest on other foodless tiles, like Tundra Hills, or Ice(though I think Ice is impossible to forest) you can build cottages on them.
I don't know if non-elves can 'trick' the game into thinking there will be a food on the tile after the forests is chopped down, but it would give a new reason to use FoL.
