Pro:
The benefits you receive from these projects are AMAZING and well worth the investment of production.

Con:
You can't save your production queue for later - if you're doing a project, you have to delete everything from the queue, losing any production you've already invested.

The con to me seems to be they are incredibly easy to win. I played my first game as the Shoshone on King and I blew everyone else out of the water just using 3 cities producing the projects. Seriously, I think I contributed something like 100 times more than the silver medal winner.

I just did International Games, and Shaka actually came in a pretty close second.

And apparently the production invested is saved - it picks up if you choose to start producing it again.

You know it's always been like that, right? You can change production and not lose any on the previous project, even for wonders.

Even coming in second is usually beneficial enough to justify the production spent on a project. They did a good job making sure the rewards of trying to compete would be worth it should you be in first or second.

The projects are a neat concept for multiplayer, because if you have no need to try and compete for the prizes of contributing, then you can use the duration of the competition to try and attack opponents at a time when they are unlikely to be building as many units as usual.

Dislikes:

International Games is a huge issue for cultural victory. Get 1st? Much easier time winning cultural victory. Get 2nd? Well, without that Tourism boost, it's going to be quite a bit tougher. International Games is the only project (and I've already competed in all-three) that really seems to be make-or-break, as the ISS comes late enough that it may save you in a close-spot but really isn't going to catch you up enough if you aren't already in the running for science victories.

I only got notifications at 35% done on the projects. That seems odd. Why not 25%, 50%, and 75%? Could have been just how much I contributed and what not, but I only saw one notification informing me how much of the project was completed each time, and always at 35%.

It would certainly be logical to be able to see more about the progress, either with a small project screen or in the WC/UN. As it's a world project, there must be a world coordination. It's not like a Wonder is created semi-secretly in a city and revealed upon completion.

When you play on an incredibly easy level you shouldn't complain that stuff is incredibly easy :)

King isn't exactly "incredibly easy" for everyone, as not everyone likes min-maxing not everyone plays Emperor+.
Just saying, there are more kinds of Civ players.

It doesn't notify you all the time, but you can see the status by hovering over the production in the city banner

You can get progress info, but it's a bit obscure...

Go to a city working on the project, and try to change what it's working on. When you mouseover the project in the list, a tooltip will show the overall progress and how much you've contributed (I think).
