Io1

There is "Spain on a lake," but Mansa is Financial, and will get 3 :commerce: on a oasis tile while growing optimally to put another pop on a flood plain for more commerce. Plus, this is noble; It's all about guesswork...

EDIT: Well, I don't want to wait a turn, but you can start research in your zeroth turn. You just have to manually do it.

Yes I know, but I don't think it's set in game mechanics. Keep in mind I don't know for sure; I think I read it off a guide somewhere. In any case it's not worth moving to not auto-pop the hut.

Well, temporarily back, and I'm looking at all of these... I'll check the map again, as I think the oasis IS in our fat cross.

EDIT: Well... the oasis is in our fat cross after all! I figured this out by unit LOS. With our units in their current position, we CANNOT see three tiles east of our settler. The most we can see is two, but we'll still have to move one to the east. After all, our cultural borders won't be big enough at the start to include the oasis.

Also, with a financial civ, doesn't an oasis have three food and three commerce? That's one powerful tile...

EDIT2: One more thing. Can anyone tell me if I can change the title of a thread? That O is supposed to be capitalized.

EDIT3: I'm gonna grab a better screenie, a'ight?

Sweet. I was hoping the Oasis would be in the FC. That means no dead tiles for the capital (I hope). Also hope there are further hills to the west, but not a big deal since this site is a major cash cow anyways.

Well, here's the new and improved screenie.

Civ4ScreenShot0000.JPG

It's not that much different, but it does reveal a few things that we didn't know before... like the fact that now we know that there is a river of some sort to the east!

Also, I got a question, and this question is open to lurkers: I need to move my settler to the east to claim the oasis IMMEDIATELY. My question is, should I move him to the northeast, east, or southeast?

Will do.

Although, purely technically, how the heck does our civilization know of a river that we can't see yet?

EDIT: Will do? I meant have done!

Civ4ScreenShot0001.JPG

Well, there ya go.

LOL! Nice map glitching you've got going there. So there's more FPs to the east...

I wouldn't move the settler at all anymore, now that I know the whole area is nice and fertile. The pop should come quickly enough at any rate, and I'm not 100% convinced we should be trying something like the Hydra, as we are likely to lose out on Bud anyways, and we want to get cottages on those plains ASAP (different part of the tree).

If we're dead set on the hydra though... we might HAVE to move, although I'm not to keen about the prospect of gimping our otherwise beautiful capital with dead desert tiles. To that end, before we even think about moving the settler, move the warrior NE to see what we'd be getting in the FC.

EDIT: I post slow. But from seeing that, let's NOT pick up 3 dead deserts.

Oh, I'm not quite dead set on the hydra. We need to adapt to whatever is the best situation at hand. If it is the hydra, so be it. If it is not, so be it. I just said I like religious starts, but you are right. The hydra doesn't look too possible... of course, we would know for sure if we knew who our enemies are!

EDIT: Yeah, grabbing those desert tiles wouldn't exactly be an idea that would go down in the civ hall of fame...

But do you even realize how much commerce we could get out of this place? Think about it... max is 7 for a town...

We could get 53 BASE COMMERCE!!!

Yeah, it's a pretty disgusting amount of commerce. We should be looking to tech and expand with a start like this. We can afford to deviate for Archery too to take advantage of our marginal UU.

EDIT: About the 6FP, how much do they reduce health by? I count 6 forests that will be in our FC too. I'm not 100% on the mechanics of the extra health from forests though.

I seriously think luck seems to favor me.

Having nothign else to do this turn... I founded the city and... well, see for yourself.

Civ4ScreenShot0002.JPG

We got a cow!!!

And five forests! No, six forests!!

So, what's our health threshold now, with the cow and forests? Happiness threshold?

EDIT: Gah, why do the gridlines and resource things keep disappearing?

Alright, play the turns :P This is nuts. This city is going to be a monster.

Hur yeah it is!

However, before I play my turns... should we go for pottery, then cows, then archers? Then to BW and IW from there?

EDIT: Also, I was going to play my turns, but then I saw the cows and forests and burst out laughing. But, you know what they say... Fortune favors the idiot's opposites!

Yeah, I'm thinking shoot for pottery so we can get cottages up and running, then the cows, then our archers. Chopping is not a huge priority, and if we control our early pop growth, which won't be hard with worker and settler builds, whipping isn't either.

BW first.

That is one excellent capital. I only count 2 hills, so be prudent about chopping. Health balances at 2 chops, as Fp is -0.4 Health, while forest are +0.5 Health.

EDIT: I've been meaning to do this:

Deviant Minds SG Ettiquite
Spoiler :
Alpha: The quality of your report outweighs the quality of your play. We’re here to have fun, and, of course, winning is fun, but losing in style is preferable to a boring win. Remember, your report should be a new reply to alert other players.

Bravo: Reports should be detailed, with plenty of screen shots and player commentary, explanations, musings, etc; an auto-log dump will not suffice. Shots of the F9 screens and overview shots of the empire are nice too, once in a while.

Charlie: Punctuality rocks! “24/48” means post a "got it" within 24 hours of when the last save was posted, and play within 48 hours of that ‘got it.’ Waiting 47 hours to ask for a skip is lame. Punk out two times in a row, and you’ll be dropped from the roster. Skips and swaps are fine, but try to let us know sooner, rather than later.

Delta: Major game decisions (war/peace declarations, religion swaps, city placement, etc) should be arrived at via group consensus.
1. If the team disagrees with you, either argue your case better, or do it their way. Do NOT just blow them off and do it your way because it's your turn.
2. However, if there’s no consensus and you’re up, do it your way and explain why. Conversely, if someone else is up, don't whine when they do it their way.
3. Similarly, overruling techs or city builds is rude and should be done via consensus, barring an emergency.
4. In extraordinary situations, sometimes an opportunity presents itself that the group didn't foresee. If the consequences of it are great (war declarations, birth of Great People, even some quests), players should stop, and refer the question to the group.

Echo: Being a better player does not give you the right to belittle anyone else or their play. Other people are going to disagree with you on major decisions; get used to the idea, and play nice. If not, take your ball and go home.

Foxtrot: Thread spam is good. Trash talking, poking fun, gentle ribbing, virtual noogies, and generally horsing around are all encouraged, but don’t be rude. See any SG I or other DMers have been in to see what I mean.

Golf: Automate sparingly.
1. Workers should almost never be automated, except perhaps late-game or building a trade network. However, if you have to, set your game options to “disallow automated worker forest chopping” and “keep previous improvements.”
2. Use of the “Emphasis” buttons is fine, but let the group know and explain your reasoning (specialization is a major game decision). If you prevent growth in a city, let the group know and remind them to take it off. Do NOT let the governor select build orders.
3. Sending units on go-to routes that last beyond your set is acceptable only if they’re heading for a rally point or if you otherwise inform your teammates.

Hotel: NEVER fortify Great People. Just press enter for 15 turns. Is that so hard?

India: Sign spamming is rude. Signs can be helpful reminders, but too many signs makes them easily ignored. Once a sign is no longer valid, delete it.

BW first? I guess I can see the point as it's only one tech. We can still mine without it, and there's no pressing need to chop at the moment.

EDIT: I'm not sure about BW first... the only real tangible benefit we're getting from it would be that we can see where copper is... which is important, but I feel it's more important to get our commerce house off the ground first.

EDIT2: Then again, if we have copper on one of those hills and don't mine it as the first action... I'll kick myself...

We could keep all forests for the bonus health, or we could chop the two on the river for some more sick commerce... Up for debate, depends on how much health we have around because FP penalties aren't going away.

Writing 30-turn turn report now.

Someone, do the next 20 turns... I can give you the gamedate of the 20th if you want.

Hackapell's next on the list. Hopefully the last two slots will fill. This looks to be an interesting game.

EDIT: Of course, we'll obviously have to wait for your report and save first :P.

All right, first things first, somewhere along the line in this save, I renamed Timbuktu "Commerce Heaven". Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Anyways... you already know what happened in 4000 BC, except for the fact that I started on a warrior.

3840 BC: Timbuktu grew in culture, not really work posting a picture.

3760 BC: I found another village, popped it, and got 57 more gold in addition to the 52 we got from the first one! WTH? I got gold twice! Pic:
Civ4ScreenShot0000.JPG

The other thing that I thought was weird was that weird freshwater lake that is somehow next to the ocean. How the heck do you do that?

3720 BC: I got Agriculture!
Civ4ScreenShot0001.JPG

I picked Agriculture as our first tech because it led to both pottery and animal husbandry, both of which we need. Badly. Now, I choose pottery, and away we go!!

3600 BC: Popped a third village, forgot the picture (It was just once, OK?) and you will never guess what the prize was.

That's right! 35 MORE GOLD! We now has 144 gold!

3560 BC: Hinduism was founded in a distant land (henceforth known as FIDAL!) I'm glad we didn't try to take that route!:crazyeye:

3440 BC: This turn was where most of the stuff happened (most for one turn, at least). First, we got our almighty tech... POTTERY!
Civ4ScreenShot0002.JPG

I choose Animal Husbandry after this, so we can hook up our valuable cows. At this very same turn, Commerce Heaven finished the warrior, so I fortified him in the city and started a worker. At this time, also, we were getting +4 FOOD from CH-City.

3240 BC: Buddhism was also FIDAL!
Civ4ScreenShot0003.JPG

Well, looks like the two early religions got snapped up right quick! I think we could have gotten Buddhism had we pursued that route, but it would have been the only one we got.

3120 BC: We got Animal Husbandry! (I thought I had a picture, but it didn't take. That sucks.) We can now hook up everything we need for now! WOOHOO!... I go for hunting and archery.

3040 BC: We trained that worker that we need! I have him build a road to the southwest. In CH-city, I start... A GRANARY! I can tell this place is gonna be a prime whipping area.

3000 BC: We learned how to hunt!!! Now we're going to learn how to shoot a piece of wood with another piece of wood! YAY!
Civ4ScreenShot0004.JPG

2920 BC: We find our first enemy!
Civ4ScreenShot0005.JPG

 I bet you were expecting another civ, weren't you? Nah, just a lion. Also, we has horses!!! Woot! How fun is that?

2880 BC: Got close to the lion.

IBT: The lion attacked us! We won! We got hurt! 3 turns to heal!

2840 BC: We learned how to shoot stuff! (Another picture that didn't take) Now we're gonna learn how to whack brown hard stuff with a hammer!! WOOHOO!

2800 BC: Nothing to report here... EXCEPT that the worker finished the SW road and the pasture. He just needs to build a road now. Also, this is my 30th turn! Hand it over to someone else? OK! I forgot to grab pictures for us to look at though. Should I grab one? I don't know! That's why I'm asking you guys!

Just a sec, I need to fix pictures.

EDIT: All right, fixed. Just refresh the page, a'ight?

Also, when I said "pictures" at the end of the post above this, I meant pictures about the overall land.

EDIT2: Another thing: The order of the roster doesn't matter, because I was thinking we could do a SG version of "ready golf", but everyone must play before someone get's to play twice.
