Io1

Yes, but Hackapell's says that he lives somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

Speaking of Hackapell, not tryin ta rush you or anything, but when will you do your 10 turns?

If I may make a suggestion...

Post in the SG registration thread that we're still looking for two players. Else we probably won't get them because this thread is more than a page long already. The SG also has no description, so people aren't likely to check it.

There actually is a description on the first page, but I posted a new description in the SG registration thread. Thanks, Silver!

Also, Hack, looking forward to it.

Turn report:

Turn 0 - 2000 BC: I switched to the cottage tile on your request.

IBT: Hey, look!
Civ4ScreenShot0010.JPG

Well, it looks like we're the fifth most cultured civilization in the world out of 8! ... I just with we knew who anyone else was...

Turn 1 - 1960 BC: Well, we got another tech, on our beeline to Confucianism! ...bah, it didn't take. Well, we learned how to be mystics, and now we're going to learn how to meditate. There's also something else that happened this turn, though:
Civ4ScreenShot0011.JPG

We founded Timbuktu! ... Again! I started an obelisk in Timbuktu, largely because it was quick, I already had a warrior, and I didn't want to build a worker at size 1.

Turn 2 - 1920 BC: Largely becuase I forgot to do it last turn, I moved the nearby warrior into Timbuktu.

Turn 3 - 1880 BC: Well, we created another warrior in CH-city, just as it reached size six and it's happiness limit. The right picture didn't take, but for some reason, this one did:
Civ4ScreenShot0012.JPG

I started a settler.

Turn 4 - 1840 BC: I found another lion, no big deal.

IBT: The lion attacked, and we won!

Turn 5 - 1800 BC: We learned how to meditate! ...didn't take again! Well, here's one thing at least.
Civ4ScreenShot0013.JPG

Yep, I started us on priesthood.

Turn 6 - 1760 BC: NOthing to report.

Turn 7 - 1720 BC: We learned how to be priests!
Civ4ScreenShot0015.JPG

Now, we're going to learn how to write! Woohoo!

Turns 8-10 - 1680-1600 BC: Nothing to report. We're gonna get another settler and writing in one turn, and then we can go straight to CoL.

O.o I thought we agreed on Red Dot?

EDIT: There's also no save for Hackapell...

But that is red dot, isn't it? ...OH $&%#! GOD %$&@IN DAMMIT!

I got rushed by my father to get off, and thought red dot was south of the horses!

These turns are evil and will be deleted! And redone!

Well, I did those ten turns over again, saved them under a different name, just in case I'm not allowed to do what I just did, and made a report.

Turn 1 - 1960 BC: We find out... that we are the most powerful civilization in the world!
Civ4ScreenShot0016.JPG

At least we're the best in SOMETHING.

Also, we managed to figure out how to be mystical! Isn't that fun?
Civ4ScreenShot0017.JPG

I hook up Meditation as our target, and off to turn 2!

Turn 2 - 1920 BC: We founded our second city! Again!
Civ4ScreenShot0018.JPG

Note what I'm calling the city. I'm not going to let myself forget this, so don't rename that city.

Turn 3 - 1880 BC: We finished a warrior in CH-city, started a settler. No big deal.

Turn 4 - 1840 BC: Nothing!

IBT: A lion attacked, we won again.

Turn 5 - 1800 BC: We learned how to meditate! ...and it didn't take! Oh well, we're going to priesthood.

Turn 6 - 1760 BC: A whole lot of nothing.

Turn 7 - 1720 BC: We learned how to be priests! Now this is odd. It didn't take the message, but it did take this picture:
Civ4ScreenShot0019.JPG

I started us up on Writing.

Turn 8 - 1680 BC: A village provided us with a map!
Civ4ScreenShot0020.JPG

The map provided us with this information:
Civ4ScreenShot0026.JPG

At least it wasn't gold.

Turn 9 - 1640 BC: A whole lot of nothing again.

Turn 10 - 1600 BC: We learned how to write!!
Civ4ScreenShot0021.JPG

Wonderful! Now we're charging for Code of Laws. Twelve turns at our current, likely to change rate.

Now we have pictures of the surrounding area...

Spoiler :
The Northwest:

The West:

And, finally, the other city:

I'll also post both saves, right after I finish this.

Here are the two saves... First one is the mistake, second one is the good one.

If you're still looking for another player, I'll join.
Plained one SG. With BTS I seem to be somewhere between prince and monarch, depending on the start.

I'll have a look through the thread and see where we're at.

All right, I'll add you in. Welcome aboard!

We still got Hackapell, who should be playing the turns tonight.

EDIT: By the way, does anyone notice the tribal village in the picture of the map we got from the villagers? It's in the top middle.

OK as I'm I'll introduce my self.

The last (and first) SG I played was PH09 which was a BTW monarch that we lost. So at least it looks like we should win this one :-)

I'm based in the UK, so and can play most weekday nights from between 2200 and 0100. Over the weekend, it may be tougher (but my no means impossible) to fit a turn in depending on family commitments.

As I understand it, this is somewhat of a learning experience, for ppl too. So I thought I'd make some suggestions on things that don't look quite right to me.

So taking a look at where we are...

* I'd be expecting barbs soon, so we need to think about a couple of skirmishers to protect our workers and improvements.

* We've a worker building a road near fixed mistake instead of putting a pasture on those horses.

* I agree that we want to get some settlers out to get the first 4 or 5 cities built. Maybe with the cottage head start we could get even more out.

* We need to find some production cities. dot-mapping and city placement is one of my weak areas, to I'll defer to the maps that have gone before. We do need some solid costal production as we're going to need a navy soon to get some tech trading underway.

* The stone/cows/copper location to the east looks like we might get some good production out of there.

* It seems to me the CS slingshot might be on here. If we can get the workers over the "fixed mistake" and get chopping, we might get the oracle, and pick up CS for it, then switch to bureaucracy.

* Once we've got a settler or two out, I'd drop a cottage and work the cows. We want to get a library in there as soon as. I'd probably grow 1 unhappy face, then do a 2pop whip and not manage the overflow properly :/

could be worth getting a gally out to explore as there may be others to meet before we get optics.

As it's an isolated start, I guess we're looking for a builders tech path up to optics and liberalism. Then see if we hunker on down and get into space first, or if we bust some heads. So, I guess we need to go something like

Finish CoL (CS via oracle )
fishing -> sailing, (get a galley or two out to see who's out there)
Alphabet, metal casing, machinery, compass, optics.

Then go for philosophy, (picking up literature for the great library if we can) then head towards liberalism.
By then we should know where we're going, and how's head we need to bash :)

Actually, the next major priority is not any of those techs, but currency. If we can hook up CH-city with a market, it will be godly.

Also, that worker has been building roads all the way up to FM-city. We're going to need those to hook up the horses to our capital evantually, might as well get it done now.

I'm really not sure about the library. It'll all depend on whether we get Confucianism, really.

If you look, we don't have a health problem, we have a happiness problem in our capital (or we will if we grow another size), and those are a whole lot worse, so let's just have it build settlers until we get another happy.

EDIT: Do you think a good site for our next city... might be the tile SW of the stone? It gets the copper and the cows and the stone, but it is one tile off the coast, which is a big mistake. But if we move it to the coast, anywhere, we miss out on one of the resources. Perhaps the getting of three resources outweighs the importance of a coastal tile? After all, we would only get three ocean tiles if we set up SW of the stone...

Yeh, the market will sort out some happy problems. So will hooking up some of the gold.

The horse comment was just what to do to get the city up and running quicker.
There's nothing wrong with the road, and it will help the troops move about to protect against the barbs well be seeing soon. I'd just be doing a the horses first.

I guess the problems I'm seeing is getting a run away science lead, which is great, but no depth to the empire.

Commerce Heaven will always be hitting it's happy cap for a long while to come as it will grow so damn fast as soon as we get happy resources, and it needs some infrastructure. I think we have a good crack at Confucianism, but I do think we need a library to crank the science up higher. It will work out about 7 or 8 :science: per turn, and let us put a scientist in there if we want to slow down the growth. Maybe we wouldn't want to do that though. I'm not good at doing the maths to prove one plan is better than another, I just tend to go on instinct. Probably why I won't get much above monarch when playing

Anywho Sorry if my first couple of posts seemed to stomp all over things. My points were aimed as points for discussion, not matters of fact.

Bed time now. Catch you later.

Well, the problem if we don't get Confucianism is that our city will grow so fast that we won't be able to build the library without amassing two unhappy citizens.

EDIT: I'm gonna try to post some... demographic pictures, I guess you could call them?

lurker's comment:
there's always Monarchy for happiness problems if you miss confucianism. in the end, since you've got the prereq's done already, it's only the small hammer cost of each unit per happy face, a much better tradeoff than temples.

plus, don't forget the :whipped: CH is a perfect candidate to whip ~ let it grow into unhappiness, whip that library for 3 pop, and hire two scientists at the happy cap ~ viola ~ GREAT sci city for the early going.

Hmm... it would work if the building in question was three pop or higher...

Also, here are the two demographic pictures worth posting.
