IRC Channel with TUTORIAL

NikNaks93 asked me to assist him in setting up an IRC channel for mod discussion.

Right now I'm the only one idling, but hopefully we can get more

The point of the channel is for feature discussion, mod planning, ect. While forum posting certainly has its place, rapid discussion of ideas is more effective when conducted via IRC. Hopefully the IRC channel will prove useful and allow the mod to develop faster. Of course, we'll need someone to record the ideas discussed on IRC - any volunteers?

* My personal favorite is mIRC, but go with on that suits your personal tastes

Mini Tutorial

1. Download and install mIRC
2. Open mIRC
3. Enter the nickname you wish to be identified as
4. Type /connect irc.quakenet.org
5. Type /join #sw-civ
6. Done!

*Optional, but recommended if you are on the team*

1. Type /msg Q HELLO your@email.com your@email.com
2. Open the email you will receive and confirm your registration
3. Download and install NoNameScript
4. Enter your Authentication details (username and password) into the appropriate space in NoNameScript configuration
5. Login like normal!

I know what you're talking about. Today I have tons of free time, but I won't have such a copious amount for about another 1-2 weeks :-/... After that however, it's Civ-mania!

What's a IRC again? How do we use it? and why are there so many 'clients' if they all do the same?

Can't you just get MSN or something?

i have mIRC instaled on my pc so we can use that one
and if its posible we need to store all what is sayed.
can we just copy past it in noteblok? (sorry if i have the name wrong i have the dutch windows version )
so that if sombody loos it we still have some back up

Qdin: IRC is Internet Relay Chat. It's a full featured yet simple way for group communication. I've never used MSN so I wouldn't know the pros/cons of IRC vs MSN, however in my past modding experience IRC works extremely well as a collaboration tool. The reason there are multiple clients is the same reason their are multiple AIM clients, multiple word processing software packages, ect - different strokes for different folks. Basically, the features vary among the IRC clients, although mIRC to me is the simplest and most enjoyable to use. It is also extremely easy to customize and EXTREMELY customizable.

If necessary I could obtain MSN I suppose, I had simply inquired whether or not you guys already had an IRC chan.

Also, as far as logging goes, NNS (NoNameScript) has built in logging. As I can idle nearly indefinitely, I can log everything. I meant something a little more detailed than a logger when I was referring to someone to document the discussions.

I think it would be easier to just use the forum, as people don't have to be on to know what is being talked about. And you don't need other people there to talk, either. Just my opinion.

When I remember to turn IRC on, I'll idle on the channel until I turn my computer off. It's not like it uses a whole lot of resources.

I'm not using it. It sounds like a complete waste of time to me. Use this forum instead, or use Instant Message applications instead.

my internet at home is down and i am now at school
and well they dont really like it when i am doing things

I have premision to check forums at school (yay)
becaus i dont have internet at home now and the teacher who gave me premision really likes me (yay)
so i can do so work at school only i have little time at school all the pc are very bussy
and i have test week so all the week tests and stuff and if i dont make it good i wont go to the next year but stay a year in this class
and i dont want that so i need to study hard -.-'

If there's something I simply HATE it is something like this. Get MSN or Xfire instead. I've got NO idea where to even type the stuffs you wrote in the 'mini tutorial'....

For not to mention I spent 2 days trying to make the installer work, until I found out it was the Danish Host which . .. .. .. .ed it up!

This program seriously looks more like Dreamweaver than something used for discussions... or whatever you'd use this to.
