I have plans to make an Ironmad mod where the progression is half speed of the vanilla Marathon game.

This will be my first ever attempt at a mod, so I'm probably in way over my head :D
Any help/comments/suggestions are more than welcome!

I would leave buildings and units to build at the same pace as to instigate more action in each era.
Research would have to be modified to start at 2x vanilla and progress towards 3x in the modern/future era, to offset the extra cities and science buildings players will likely have.

Food needed to grow a city I would like to do something like this: lvl 1 -> 2 is 150%, 2 -> 3 is 160%, etc. lvl'ing out at 6 -> 7 at 200%

Culture needed should probably just be doubled, since people will have lots more cities and thus need more culture to progress according to the normal mechanics. Think this would work? If people try to keep their empire very small to take advantage of this, they would be very vulnerable to large militaristic empires, no?

Not sure if It will be needed to do anything about golden ages and GP's. I think probably not. Golden ages are powerful enough already and will as always generate lots of gold and production when active, but they will obviously become much less frequent in the endgame.

There is allready a mod in the database called 'History' which has 3000 turns in it. I'm only 300 turns in, so don't know how it will play out yet.

Make one with 5000 :D

You should actually lower culture need because with each city cost of policies is incrasing fast. like 33%?
When you leave cost of buildings (and not incrase it) its likely that you will have all buildings or you will be building wealth so i dont know if its good idea.
And as for units it depends what do you want, or decrase production time for them to produce them faster and have them more, or incrase their hp to have less units but longer fights (i would like to choose this one because i cant imagine in modern era having to fight with hundreds of units every turn)

Why bother with turn limits anyway? You can disable them in the advanced setup.

i think the idea is not so much turn limits, but tech progression. a standard pace game takes 350 (?) turns to get from agriculture to future tech (if you focus on it and try for a science victory).

this mod makes each tech take roughly ten times as long to research, if im reading it right.

One problem I see with 3000 turn games is the absolute druggery of "end-turn" "end-turn" "end-turn".

At least lower maintenence costs, city happiness penalties so people can expand, and maybe add a few new techs in there.

I hardly play Marathon because all it feels like is spamming end turn and having units take 50 turns to train.

Nah, 3000 turns works excellent on the mod that is allready there. Of course, it takes forever, but I enjoy these long games. I've had one game that I've played 4-5 hours a day, and it's gonna last me a week or more. Production and construction is still at marathon-level, so you get to have huge wars in every era. Brilliant! Research and happiness is modded in some way, can't remember which right now. Go check it out.

This mod is actually pretty simple to implement, and will need only a few row additions to the tables GameSpeeds and GameSpeed_Turns.

GameSpeeds has all the information for what modifiers to apply to things like gold, happiness, culture, production, and so on. GameSpeed_Turns determines how long a game lasts.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but could anybody point me to a link where I could download that mod? I'm browsing through the download section, but can't find it (anymore?) :)

Thanks :)
