Well, isn't this nice... We have plenty of intelligent Europeans to inform us what America is really like. I'm glad; I've actually learned something here (though not about America).

BTW, if he really were a "Leroy" or "Billy Bub," he would like Clinton, as Hilly and Billy were from Arkansas. :)

At least we "Euro's" know how to spell. As for your racistic and badly informed "facts" about Muslim immgration and birth statistics, you should feel ashamed of yourself. Muslims are something like 3 % of Britain's population, 2 % of Germany's - and their birthrate tanks to European (or American) levels in less than one generation. For that matter, the birth rate is going down in Muslim countries too. By the way, in the United States, the only group that is increasing is Latinos, and that's only because you keep importing more of them to do the jobs you are to genteel to do yourself. Admittedly, the number of African and Asian immigrants increases too, which gives your country some much needed vitality and initiative. They do the work while you natives sit gorging yourself to death at the local fast food outlet. Even the U. S. Army is 20 % foreigners these days.

I bet your grandfather was very upset about "the Yellow Peril". As for your asinine war in Iraq, you should have the sense not to bring it up.

Sorry, Leroy (or is it Billy Bub?), but you should not have opined.

Ah come on chief. Everyone is entitled to opinions about countries they arent from. It works both ways. I think Quetz is entitled to his opinion, even if its wrong. By your logic you have no right to comment on the USSR or Nazi Germany just cause you didnt live there

I'm finding it more addicitve, I think theres more to do, more useful late-era buldings, more useful late era units (as opposed to just pumping out as many Modern Armours as you can, and stockpiling nukes) plus the fact that you can defy UN resolutions makes a big difference too, as everything isnt balanced out now and nuclear warfare is more likely

To get away from the nationalist pride of multiple countries and the comparison of the US empire to the Roman empire.

The later half of the game has been given a nice boost because the AI doesn't fold come industrial revolution time, and the new units and tech requirements create a quickly changing military scene. All increasing the playablility of the late era's.

I've only completed one game, but after tanks, the game didn't turn into a grind out to build the space ship, vassalize everyone, etc.

@Quetz
First, calm down and stop the flaming and the name-calling.

Second:
Quetz: "Clinton was the height of the US? That corrupt, lying POS?"
NOT HIM
The moment when USA was at its highest peak in terms of POWER was under Clinton
That's what I meant.
And I'm French canadian not European. Enough with the prejudices against "Euros", Muslims or latinos.

Calm down everyone! It was just some intellectual fun. The guy before me asked which period "The New Rome" was now into. I gave a response based on the trends I perceive from my southern neighbour.

I just put my 2 cents in: I think the height of USA's power was the 1990s, because there really was no rival to them after USSR collapsed.

I think my comparison can be justified to a certain extent:
There are more than one parallel that can be drawn between this period of Roman history and the USA in 2007.
After the Antonines, the Roman Empire survived for 2 centuries (some say even more, as the date of 476 (Rome's end) is highly contested by many historians. Some wait until the Muslim invasion of the 7century to say the Roman civilization has ended). Let's not forget that. So, America won't "fall" anytime soon.

It's not on the verge of collapse, but I think the most glorious and powerful days are over. Since the end of the cold war USA stood without any worthy rival. These days will be over soon.
China is rising, India too. Russia is recovering. Europe is trying to unify. According to most Economists, London will regain its financial capital of the world status soon, according to trends (New York will become second).
USA will not be alone in the "superpower" status for long (a generation or two maximum)
USA's moral leadership is contested.
Commercial deficit.
Budget deficit.
Americans are more and more afraid of migrants changing the cultural and linguistic landscape of their country (like the Romans of the 180-200 who saw the first barbarians coming in).
Oh and Guetz, on the wall being built:
- MANY parts of the Mexican wall have already been built. You know as well as I do that the wall covers most of the easiest crossing points (urban aglomerations, many parts of the Californian border) on theborder. I was not precise enough, but my comment was still pretty close to the truth

This is all just for the fun of comparing two great civilizations that marked their time like no other. So calm down!
They indeed have a lot in common. But they also have their differences.

May I ask why, if America is so racist and afraid of people from elsewhere, we accept more new immigrants each year than any other country in the world? In fact, if you Europeans don't start taking a lot more your populations are going to start declining in the middle of this century.

When asked in a poll a few years ago 'What defines an American' the Americans polled said: 1) Believing in America's values of individual freedoms and the democratic process and 2) Ability to speak English, as a diverse nation like the US needs one unifying factor.

Notice, no mention of race, religion, skin color or anything else. It is fashionable most places in the world to bash America but, if we're so awful, why are so many millions and millions of people from everywhere trying desperately, legally and illegally, to get here and become Americans?

You are going to have to wait a long time for the Decline of America.

And yes, the later part of Civ 4 is much more interesting now and the AI a great improvement.

I rarely finish my games, I just get bored or attacked. I wish they would expand the Enlightenment period a bit more, good we have Privateers and Man-of-Wars back. Blockades is also good, but the age of sailing just lasts too short imho...

its all the same... the technologies goes to fast in normal and epic speed.. so i only constructing wonder and buildings, if i want i rush a lot of units and thats the end of the game...

i used to play on monarch in warlords but now im playing on prince in bts...

like allways i almost never finish my games...

On my part, I never said America was racist.
I said it was MORE afraid now of migrants than it was a few decades ago.
Just look at the minutemen, the incapacity of the Congress to even pass a immigration bill. The wall. These are all signs of fear. US TV news programs often show immigrant rapist or burglar or drug dealer. Right-wing political pundits make a lot of milage (and rather good ratings) with these stories.

I don't think that America in the 1990s or 1980s were as much afraid of migrants as they are now.

You are going to have to wait a long time for the Decline of America.
Compared to the 1990s, there is already a slight decline in terms of relative world power. Think civ powergraph: China has been closing in on USA. Other nations too are growing faster than America.
USA has less influence and is less economically powerful than it was at the end of the 1990s.
The growing commercial deficit is a problem
The enormous budget deficit created by Bush is also a serious problem (Clinton managed to eliminate the deficit)
The American Dollar is not as strong as it used to be.
These are all signs of a decline. Will this decline endure or will it be just a bump along the road? That is another question to which we don't have the answer.

Do you think Marcus Aurelius knew that when he was fighting the germanic barbarians on Roman's border in the 160s and 170s (AD), it was the beginning of a trend that would ultimately participate in the Fall of the Roman Empire? Of course he did not!
He wouldn't have been able to conceive such a thing. For him and for most Romans, Rome was eternal. It had been the dominant power since the middle of the 3rd century before christ. That's more than 400 years of hegemonic power!!!!
+ It continued to dominate this part of the world for at least another 2 and a half century. That is very roughly 650 years of hegemonic power.
USA has been the dominant power for about 60 years (others say for 17 years, if they start counting after the end of the cold war), and it's already showing signs of troubles...
What will USA look in 250 years or in 600 years. Will it still exist? No one knows.
