It is not yet, but that does not mean things can't snowball out of control.

It's going to be The Day After Tomorrow movie...

...times INFINITY!

I have read the full transcript. Both sides made some good points and are good debaters. It just seems to me that the evidence for global warming being caused by man-made greenhouse gas emissions is accepted by the majority of climate scientist. It's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to something as threatening as global warming. That doesn't mean that we should ignore poverty and other global issues that we're facing. It just means that GW is something that we cannot put off doing something about for very long. If we put off doing something about it for too long future generations will likely suffer the consequences.

Just for once, I'd like everyone to admit that they don't care about future generations. No generation has ever really cared about what came after them. It's human nature, and it's not going to change just because Al Gore made a documentary.

Talk is cheap. Meanwhile, my eldest Uncle just bought an H2 Hummer (8-14 mpg). He really cares about "the next generation". Just as everyone does, in their 50s, and beyond.

I'm convinced human beings evolve into a phase of unbridled selfishness, starting sometime in the late 40s, but really kicking in around the 50-mark, and only getting worse as they age. Yet here, we have a bunch of idealistic youths, relatively speaking. And, that's quaint.

I picked option 3, although I don't really know if GW will be part of the apocalypse before the second coming or not

However, even if it weren't the case, I believe there is nothing we can do to stop global warming, and so it's not a crisis. It's out of our hands. Should we panic so much over aging? It's out of our hands.

"Cowards die many times before their deaths. The valiant taste of death but once."

No it isn't. Actually a few more degrees would be nice, help me work on my tan. Plus the ladies will wear less clothes...thats the opposite of crisis.

What do I look like, a frickin' climatologist?

What I have been convinced of is that there is some level of global warming and it is by and large caused by CO2 emissions and that it's more trouble then good. I have also been convinced that taking actions in the near and long term will result in decreasing the badness of such warming. What I don't know is what pricisely is the best amount of prevention that will minimize costs of global warming while not bogging down the current economy.

Some of you might be surprised to know that the Y2K bug did, in fact, cause a pretty hefty hit to the U.S. economy.

Even though the Y2K bug didn't actually happen.

In late 1999, I saw several reports of companies taking big financial hits. Such as one company that (reluctantly) announced to the world that its systems weren't Y2K-compliant. The company's stock lost half its value in one day.

The Y2K bug didn't even happen--yet it still caused a good deal of economic damage.

You see, a crisis can sometimes be entirely a matter of perception. We think there's a problem on the way, and our reactions can themselves cause a problem. So, step number one in solving global warming is this: let's keep our heads on straight and not have a panic.

It's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to something as threatening as global warming.

By "safe", do you mean trying to reduce emissions? With all the economics costs of doing that (that could be channeled elsewhere; for example (as mentioned in the debate) providing (hundreds of) millions of people with electricity & fresh water, is it really the 'safe' option?

Worship God, just to be safe.

If there's no God, you lose nothing. If there is a God, ka-bing!! Heaven.

Better safe than sorry........ :D

The "better safe than sorry" dealie doesn't cut the mustard for me either.

Ah, but God knows whether or not your faith is genuine... for He sees into your heart.

So, if you go to church and God sees that your faith is not genuine.....SCORCH!!! You end up in Hell.

And that quick, I came up with a reason NOT to worship God. Am I good, or am I good??? :D

Yes, and no. If we continue to ignore it, it will be, but if we change some small things, we'll be fine.

Exactly. All we have to do is make small changes. I can't see why people can't do that or are so adamant not to make those little changes.
