Is it best to master Rise of Nations first?

Is it best to master first Rise of Nations, then its expansion pack Thrones and Patriots, then Rise of Legends.

I want to get this game and will probably have it in a few months, after the geography bee is over for this year.

When playing the demo of Rise of Legends, I found it's control system and engine to be quite different from Rise of Nations. I wouldn't feel it important to first master RON as the games are a little different from each other.

But Rise of Nations is certainly a great game to master anyway!

Now, if I buy Rise of Nations Gold, is it best to just hop into the Thrones and Patriots Expansion Pack or master Rise of Nations first?

They're both pretty much the same except with a few extras, nothing that affect the way in which the game is played.
