Jim Balcomb recently went public with his rather impressive reconstruction of good old Master of Magic that he's been working on over the last few years called ReMoM. While a number of other excellent fan projects have already remade MoM over the years (such as Implode's HD Multiplayer Edition and Seravy's Caster of Magic 2 for Windows) they either changed the game significantly or did not involve a full disassembly of the original game code to ensure a truly accurate code conversion and reconstruction of the original Master of Magic. There's also been a number of other attempts to accurately reassemble MoM over the decades but none of them got all that far.
Currently Jim is focused on replicating/reassembling the original game in its entirety in C which as you can see in the video & pictures below he has gotten quite far in now. In the future Jim is planning on making many enhancements such as support for modern resolutions, Civizard (Playstation 1 version of MoM) graphics compatibility, support for bigger upscaled assets, multiplayer, better AI, and much more. The project is Opensource on Github which means it will also be great for future modding and fans can follow Jim's work and interact with with over on the MoM Discord channel in the #mom-reverse-engineering chat area where he posts project updates almost daily.
The original and fan patched versions of Master of Magic are of course available on Steam and GoG these days and we have the recent official Master of Magic Remake from MuHa and Slitherine on those sites too. However for retro fans who prefer playing the original MoM or have always wanted to get their hands on MoM's lost source code will likely find Jim's project quite interesting!
