What do you all feel is it better to be a supernerd and go to space or is it better to rape, pillage and plunder. Come on everyones got an oppinion lets hear a few of em and why alright!!
Cheers Caesar19

Hmmm, in my opinion, pillaging is much better option in harder levels (Civ2).
But in Chieftain/Warlord, it is MUCH better
to be a supernerd.

I'm a pathetic little wimp.

burn! Burn! BURN!!! capture there cities, rape there women, torture there men, take there children! bring those children home to learn the finer art fannatical'ness, teach them to dive into tanks, carrying a backpack full of explosives and a dager, teach them that there home country is that of the devil, teach them you are god, throw them en-masse at tanks, dont worry if they dont stop there advance, just throw more at the tank, until there sheer wheight destroys it!!!!! Pillage there country sides till no more food exists but dirt, sand, and the bodys of there loved ones!!!! plunder there civilization into poverty, all for your cause KILL!!! DESTROY!!!! FIRE!!! WAR!!!

so, yes, i tend to go for the space victory.

Becouse otherwise i have to stay on that, now burning, filled with war, plauge, and pain, planet called home.

I tend to be a warmonger.

The AI is going to engage me in war anyway, so I get perverse satisfaction from beating it at it's own game.

Besides territorial conquest is more fun than just sitting there building SS Components.

When I first started playing CivII, I thought I'd be all altruistic and everything and play "nice" and go for the SS. I won some games that took months to finish. Then I played a GOTM that was set to bloodlust. I never actually finished as I didn't get it completed within a month, but boy was it fun!

. You'll get better scores with a SS, but it is more engaging and enjoyable (as atrocious as it is) to be a warmonger. I think I'm leaning more to that side these days. My current game is a scenario also set to bloodlust, so once again I have no choice but to go out and kick some booty

hehe... in my recent game, i let the germans destroy there own capital witch thus destroyed collosus and marco polo...BURN, KILL, DESTR... wait, i already said that ooops

I am the peacemonger from Hades! I will not fire a shot in my games other than for doing away with Barbarians, and as often as not, I'll bribe a barbarian to come with me, then, use them against their own.
Mind you, I said I am a peacemonger, not stupid. I am always well-prepared for war in case it happens, but in my games, that is very, VERY rare, and when it happens, I usually have the superior technology, so the "war" only lasts a turn or two.

It is simpler to combine the two. Build up a force large enough so that you can expand, and then use that force to secure your land, and grab Leo's workshop ASAP

Now, here's the crazy thing... I usually play "conservative", that is, someone who builds the sci-techs up so that when you're big and bold as brass you crush your enemies like butter on a hot knife. Certainty, that's the name of the warfare game.

Heck I inveted this concept before it was implemented in Desert Storm!

But it's not always possible to avoid the fight early on. Playing a recent game, diligently building cities by the thousands, but I'd randomly landed only a few cells away from a warlike moron AI who crushed me before the year 3000 was through.

Had I done something wrong? Had I misfired my strategy. This particular one has been haunting me ever since...

(Mind you, my solution was to... erherm, cheat -- it was a multiplayer game -- take over his civilisation myself and roar to a dramatic conclusion involving massive victory. Still... it was extremely inauspicious!)

Inauspicious is right! Admitting to cheating in your very first post, hey?

And in a multiplayer game, too...

shame, shame.

But I digress. The question was, rather leadingly put, "nerd" or "warmonger". Well, I'll have to admit to being a nerd then. An a$$-kicking nerd. My favourite tools of war? Engineers, caravans and spies. Civilized warmongers only need apply.

P.S.: Leowind, I didn't know you had these destructive urges in you! Shocking!

Play the nerd, learn all you can, build the maximum size spaceship but don't launch it. Change to FUN-dementalism (you suffer on research but by now you should be on Future tech so all its going to loose you is a few points) build lots of offensive units without support costs or worrying about happiness and set about destroying any civ that has looked at you in the wrong way, when you have only one small enemy city left then launch your ship. If they get to difficult to defeat or have launched then beat them to it or just take out the capital and destroy the ship. I call this the win-win scenario.

I only really do this at the lower levels as I am not experienced enough to achieve this at the higher levels, where I play nerd or warmonger but rarely both.

Warmonger baby!!!

I used to be a nerd, but I got tired of AI tech trading to stay in the space race. So I decided I would try to take care of the AI in early fashion. Reading Writing Arithmetic and Chivalry are the subjects all my children learn!!! After ridding the world of the less desireable nations then you can build your spaceship!!

Actually, warmongering early is good. Strike hard, reduce the AI to one city early, then it's smooth nerd sailing from then on. Bit more boring, I'll admit, but then you can build your beautiful civilization without annoyances. I think of it as SimCivving.

Start Replying you nerf herders this is the hottest topic in history!

If you fight well enough, you can kill everybody except for one city, then build a 400 spaceship at your leisure while all you cities tell you they love you.
This is the way I like to do it.
At Deity level on a large map, the AI sometimes interferes with these plans and I have to fire a lot of nuclear weapons and turn the planet to desert and swamp. I once had 195 pollution skulls.

I like it both ways, although I usually shoot for the Spacechip victory. Hey - I like the Spaceship movie trailer better....

In the first few millennia I focus on building cities and conquering neighbors. This essentially is a 5000 year-long rampage where I just trash & conquer everything in sight (if indeed the game is going my way...); then around A.D. 1000 I settle down and start concentrating on building & consolidating. I'll still fight some wars, but after 1000 I require a little provocation before I'll trash someone...

when i first started playing civII all my games were set to bloodlust heck i didn't even know how to build the space ship. then after a few hundred games it actualy started to get to me that i was killing and starving people (i have no life ya see the civs become like real people to me) so i started realy deving into the acadamy on this site to get hints on how to win peacefully. well that got my butt kicked at first so now i have setteled into a nerd-esk player. i go science/peace and when i get battleships i try to build a myriad of them to "control" AI ports and shipping. that way i don't make contact with the AI civs so "war" is not decared but i can realy set them back by making them re build defenseive coastal units and ships. the sickest compramise i have reached with my self about land wars is only attack to respond to aggression either direct attacks from other civs or putting thier infernal units in my expansion path. if and when i do attack them it is only until the ask for peace and the cities i have "acquired" i lovingly build up and feed allowing them to be assimilated into my superior culture. this is why i cannot wait for civIII. sometimes smaller cities ask to be assimilated cause after all, resistance IS futile!!!!!!

Would spies be considered nerdy or warlike? I just loooove to buy up cities. And nothing beats having a dozen spare spies to whittle away a size-12 city into nothing by poisoning the water supply.

Well, except planting a nuke I suppose.
