Is it better to be a nerd or a warmonger?

I have always played as the nerd. I maxed out science every chance I got. I would always build a temple, then a library in my cities. Once I got my home territory settled I never attacked anybody except in defending my land.

That has all changed now.

I expand like crazy, and start to push on the AI players early. I have my tax rate set for more cash than science since I am rush buying units. I let caravans make up for the short fall in my cities science production.

I always hated the part where I would get so far ahead in science that the AI would always start attacking me and I would have to viciously defend my little piece of the earth.

Now I can build up in peace since the AI is beat down to a few (one?) cities and I end up being a nerd and a warmonger at the same time.

I am an intellectual warmonger. Or perhaps a violent nerd. Whatever. I enforce my will upon those who share the planet with me and if they choose to defy my will then they will be barbequed swiftly and efficiently by my small but powerful armies.

If they choose to obey my will then they shall be free to frolic merrily in the pastures about their pitiful empire. (except the Zulus. They can just die

)

I almost never start wars, but if (read: when) an AI civ starts one against me, I'll usually pursue it until said AI civ is eradicated. Since I'm a better general than city-planner, my most valuable cities during the later part of the game are often ones that I conquered sometime during the Mediaeval or Renaissance eras. In a recent game, the top three cities were all Egyptian cities (I was the Russians) that I had captured!

I agree with being a Violent Nerd. Build up science but don't just leave the AI alone while you're at it. Gotta love that Hawk Party!!!
