Is it possible to get a MGL if you have a SGL?

Is it possible to get a military great leader if you already have 1 or more scientific great leaders alive? I've seen this question answered as "Yes" before on this forum. However, in ~100 of my reload tests I've never poped a MGL if I had a SGL alive. I win the battle w. my non-used elite unit during most of the time too.

I believe the answer is "No". Somebody tested this and the rule was

"You can't get a MGL if you have any leader active." As I recall (I could be wrong and can't find it real quick), that was the only rule, so you can get SGLs at any time.

Thanks for the info, gang! I held on to two, count 'em two, SGLs for at least 1000 years, waiting to push build future Wonders. No wonder I didn't get an MGL!
Within 10 turns after activating the last SGL, I earned the MGL. Within another 10-12 turns, I picked up three more!

You're not wrong.

So does that mean i dont get SGL if i have a current MGL ??

You can still get an SGL (or even multiple SGLs) when you have an unused MGL. The key, a somewhat technical point, is that you cannot generate a battle-created leader if you have any leader (of any sort) -- since MGLs are "battle-created" but SGLs aren't, with either an SGL or MGL, no further MGLs but SGLs are still possible.

All info thanks to the tests conducted by alexman, BTW.

For me, it was the very turn I used it. Of course, I was hip-deep in war at the time.

I brought this up a while back. Here's the thread, if anyone's curious.

Hm, did someone ever get a hint from a developer about this or is our only base extensive testing and reports here?

The results make perfect sense however. Yeah, Civfanatics are great researchers. :)
