i have 1gb of ddr400 memory, and i noticed long boutes of lag, where the game would freeze completly for a good 10 seconds then return to life, i alt tabbed out and notices my momory was anywhere from 93% to 99% in use! thats just rediculouse seeing as the recomended is 512, i mean if it was running great i would figure its using all my memory to increase performance, but it still runs crappy. is this a common issue? im running the 1.52 patch and have 256 megs of memory on my geforce fx5500
is it suposed to be doing that?!

Have you tried playing the game at lower graphics setting and disable antialiasing?
Your may want to upgrade your graphics card... FX 5500 is kinda old.

I agree with that. It sounds like it's all getting into a bottleneck with your FX5500. I had the Fx5200 and it was doing more or less what you are experiencing. By the modern age it was unplayable but a upgrade sorted it all out for me at least.
