Is It The Game Or The Video Cards??

I got the game yesterday and have tried it on all three computers at home, all with the same result. The question that I have is whether the graphics that I am seeing (or I should say - not seeing) are a "feature" of the game or a failure of the three video cards. Specifically - I have played the game on easiest level up through getting monarchy. The video on the units comes in perfectly clear, the improvements, cities, pigs, panthers, leaders, rice etc, all perfectly clear, beautiful, no problem whatsoever. The wonders or whatever (Obelisk) also perfectly clear.
BUT.... as I move the units through terrain it is all BLACK. The regular terrain features - grassland, plains etc. do not appear visually at all though there is an identifying window on the left that tells me what they are (grassland, plains, coast, jungle, ocean etc.). As I said, the terrain has no display but the improvements do. I tried moving from computer to computer and got the same result - exactly.
Thus the somewhat foolish question - is this a "feature" (if so, a very stupid one, i feel like I am about to go blind) and does it ever go away...or is it a failure in all three the video cards?? If a video card failure, anything that I can do about it (e.g. lower resolution).

If you're getting the black terrain bug it's possible that none of your video cards support TnL. However you aren't getting the 'Cheshire cat' bug if your leaders appear normal, which is strange as the two seem to go together. There are several threads in the tech support forum on the subject of video cards and this particular problem. There are one or two awkward work-arounds, but I don't think anyone's come up with a very satisfactory fix.

Thanks.

Based upon the mere description, I'd have to admit that, with respect to leaders, I guess that I had the "Cheshire Cat" on two cards and perhaps on the third.

On two computers, the leaders appeared by only their mouths though there seemed to be a fade in and fade out. On the third, the bodies and face appeared but you could see gaps. Did not realize the significance and had not given much credence to the leaders part of this.

So we are talking a bug and not a feature. Is it widespread enough that they are likely trying to fix? I'll check the other posts.

Well as far as I understand it, if your graphics card doesn't support TnL, you'll get both black terrain and Cheshire cat 'bugs'. It's more a compatabiity issue than a bug, it's just come to be called that. I don't know whether the TnL requirement can be removed in a patch, Firaxis has so far been silent on the subject. Judging from the number of reports in the tech support forums it is fairly widespread.

Did you not think it might have been an idea to at least glance at this forum before posting this? There's about 68 duplicate threads on this.
