Is it true that this game doesn't work on laptops?

I have a top of the line Sager: 3.4 ghz, 2 gig ram, 256 meg video, HT processor.

It would save a lot of time if I found out that this just doesn't work on laptops.

Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio FS115Z with centrino 740 and 1 Gig of RAM and 128 Mb of Video Memory.
Civ IV runs very fine. Not a single graphical problem whatsoever.

It will work on some laptops, but only about 1 in 3 judging from an earlier poll. Civ 4 will run, albeit rather laggy on larger maps, on my Dell Inspiron 5160 with 512Mb RAM and a GeForce FX5200 graphics card.

Hello,

I have an Acer laptop (not a gaming laptop, just an ordinary one who was for sale!) and the game works..

i only have the problem with the black background and I see the leaders as eyeballs and teeth.. but that's a problem with my drivers..

i have an IBM T43, 2.0ghz, 512mb RAM, 64mb graphics, and the game runs. albeit slow as a dog, but it works, no graphical anomalies at all.

on my p4 3.2ghz, 1gb ram, 128mb 6600GT, i get stripes all over the screen, and randomly the games slows to a crawl.

on my x2 4400+ with 2gb ram, 256mb 7800GTX, win x64, stupid game just crashed all the time - not even to desktop, just total freeze.

so in all, i'm basically almost only able to play on my laptop. stupidly.

Playing on a Dell Inspiron 9300, 1.86 Centrino, 256meg GF6800, 2 gigs ram. Runs flawlessly at 1900x1200 with graphics on high.

I can play it, on my HP Pavillion z5000, and it runs... but only after some major tweaking [and it still runs slow ;-( ] only a gforce 4 grafix card tho

CIV 4 ADVANCED gaming machine for sale... :) - only for advanced players!
Anyone wanna buy my laptop? It's a omnibook vt6200 512MB ram, 1.7GHz Pentium Mobile CPU, 40gig hdd... And a blazing fast ATI mobility M6 with tons of cool features...

Think different! Don't be boring like everyone else. For example when you play civ4 on it, you will see funny faces instead of the boring normal ones with is really fun. And when you are looking at the map, you will have to use your third eye to reveal what is beneath the black tiles. It is like playing on hard level but with this nice feature, it is EVEN HARDER! call now and with some luck this dream machine can be yours bundled with civ4 - advanced version.

It runs fine on my laptop with no lag at all on the highest graphics and resolution settings. I tried a huge map archipelago and it was fine. Maybe on Pangea it would slow down possibly. So far so good. Some stuttering on the wonder movies but that is about it. Multiplayer seems to take a little longer to load but it runs fine once I am playing.

I have a 2 year old laptop:

Compaq nx7000
1.5 Gig htz
1.25 Gig RAM
ATI Radeon 9200 with 64 Meg RAM

Good luck to you. The game kicks butt. ^^

I got it working on an under spec IBM T42 laptop with only a 32mb ATI radeon Mobility 7500 graphics chip!

Mind you, I had to mess with the settings via Radlinker & it runs like a dog from the start but it works! :crazyeye:

I almost cried the 1st time I saw the terrain!

Yeah it runs, although I am a little dissapointed in the speed at which it runs. 1.7 Centrino, 1 gig ram and 256 GFX. I'm just curious what the hell kind of machine it takes to run it well. Hell if mine can't do it what can??!! I get some serious lag later on, especially on larger maps. Blah!

athlon 64 3400+
ati radeon 9700 mobility
1Gb of ram
17inch screen

Now tell me that i need an upgrade? no i need a patch

I have an HP Pavillion ZD7000, and the game looks nice on the 17" screen - but of course I spend more time rebooting than actually playing. Pentium 4, 1 gig ram, defragged biweekly.

Game is absolutely unplayable after about 1500 ad on huge maps. Crashes to desktop, blue screen, audio stutter, wonders video crashes, you name it.

CIV4 is total suck city and after weeks of messing with this this and (pointlessly) tweaking my computer and phoning tech support and hour after hour of reading through all the civ forums trying to find a fix that works, I am really furious. I can't BELIEVE I actually PAID for this crap. If they dont patch this soon I swear I will never touch another Firaxis product again as long as I live.

I have a notebook

Intel Pentuim M 1.86 GHz Dothan 2MB cache
1.3 GB of RAM
60 GB HD.
INTEL GM915 256 MB shared memory

the game is unplayable...due to the slow FPS rate. I wan't my money back.

I know that is becomes slow with shared grfx mem, but this is rediculous.
Ok, the game is nice, but not that nice. I think games like RON lookes just at good and the game also runs great on my comp. Even farcry runs OK on my comp and that is rally eye candy. But not CIV 4...

I don't even need thar great grfx. For me it would be enough if a square with a letter in it symbolized a unit and a circel a city, etc...

/Angry dissapointed swedish guy.

Works ok for me on my Acer C311XMi, with 512MB and a GF6200. Couldn't play it on my much bigger desktop.

My friend plays it on his HP pavillion z5800 (I think) but only using 3rd-party OMEGA drivers for his ATI card.

It runs 10 times better on my less powerful laptop than it does on my more powerful desktop (resources don't display, slow lag time, more crashes). The laptop still crashes after extended play (several hours), but no run problems at highest settings even though it only meets the required system limits.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 with P4 2.6Ghz, 512MB Ram and a Geforce 4. I can run the game but it slows down big time at later stages.
I don't see why this would happen - the graphics are okay but not spectacular. On the other hand I can play Age of Empires III, which has incredible graphics, without any problems - although because of my fairly old Gfx card I can't put some of the graphics features in AOEIII on full - but it still looks far better than CIV4 and runs much faster.
