Is stealing technology possible? Practical?

How easy is it to steal another civ's technology? I never tried, but it seems possible, although rather expensive.

Is it practical? For me, sounds too expensive and too risky.

It is a function of the game situations. If I am playing a Sid game, I will usually steal nearly all of the techs after the GLB expires.

If I am playing an Always War game on a large map size, I will steal and research.

You tend to get a lot of cash later in the an AW game as you get it from capturing or razing the AI towns. In Sid games, it usually is at least as cheap to steal and you will probably not be able to keep up in research.
