Is the 7-1 patch playable?

Since the day one of its launch on June 1st there were reports of bugs that render the game pretty much unsuitable for playing IMHO, i.e. diplomats bug when AI wouldn't send its diplomats to CSs unless the CS is one turn away, which leads to diplomats being stacked in AI city indefinitely.
I've been waiting for the hotfix to come, but none has arrived yet.
So the question still stands. How playable is the latest version?

I don't think there are any other major issues, But that bug is keeping me from playing as well.

I follow this mod for more than a year now and there were only few versions that had only minor bugs. I think that there will be no ideal time to start a game, until this project will be released. This will only happen if you play the game and report bugs, so if you just wait for the perfect time you will miss a lot. I guess that the mentioned bug will be fixed in the next version, but who can tell what bugs will come instead?

I'm sorry but how the heck is ONE bug stopping you from playing the game? Did you not EVER play vanilla Civ 5? There were/are so many bugs/exploits/things that don't make sense, if ONE bug here stops you from playing a mod, how did you ever get through a normal game? Civ AI has never been strong, but this mod makes it the most competent I have ever seen. Perfection in a game (let alone a Mod) is impossible.

As for your question, the new version is very playable. The only issue I had was an issue with a patch a couple of weeks ago that caused the game to freeze. They said it was because of an infinite loop with an AI check. The most recent hot fix/version fixed it, and it works great.

Because I know it will be fixed in the next patch. With the original civ 5, you never knew if any of the bugs and exploits were going to be patched so waiting did not help. With Vox Populi it's different. Waiting a couple of days to start a new game is worth it, beacuse you know it's going to be a better experience.

There is no need to be nervous or aggressive.
I only expressed my opinion that this kind of bug, despite being the only ONE serious bug, still is pretty crucial to stop me from playing this version.
I didn't blame anyone (Gazebo and his folks are doing amazing job and their mod is deservedly the best CIV5 mod IMHO), neither did I complain. I simply asked people's opinion how playable the current version is.
Peace out.

The answer definitly is : furiously playable
Currently at the middle of a game (v.7.1+a dozen of Picknmix mods/No EUI/immortal/large map)
Especialy playable because :
- No CTD so far
- I'm not realy winning the game despate a couple of insane "adjutments" made with IE at turn 0. I always believed that a good mod has to enhance the IA capacity
- VP7.1 is near of the perfect CivV we ever dreamt about
I didn't know about the diplomate issue. Maybe it's why, at least, I'm the ruller of the entire 20 CS :crazyeye:

Honestly, if you're waiting for a zero bug mod to play civ, play Tetris instead:lol:

Well, that constitutes low playability to me.
Thanks for your opinion anyway. Glad you like it.

Actually, i didn't noticed, and i'm sorry for it, that i invest massivly in GD
Come on dude play Tetris as i said and tell us your score :D

As you may have noticed, in this thread I only asked people's opinion regarding the latest 7-1 patch.
I didn't ask anyone's advice as to which games to play instead.
Thanks again anyway. ;)

I'm joking obvously but;
but, I (we?) would like to know anyway how you'r good at Tetris
Just tell us and the debate will be closed.
Thanks for the lol you provide. English is world universal humour language.
Trolling you said?

I thought about responding to this thread directly, however I realized that whatever I said would not be nice. So I instead decided to just paint you a picture:

Your response is appreciated, Gazebo.
Looking forward to the next update.

Oh come on, G, you know better.

OP only asked a legitimate question and raised a valid concern (one that I share). You know the frozen diplos bug is gamebreaking, ESPECIALLY for your magnificent CSD that gave the diplomatic game new life... I also find myself holding the trigger on 7.1 because, as many others, I just don't have the time to start a game that I know has basically one system non-functional (I don't want to "own the 20 CS" easily, as one poster bragged, based on a bug...).

The real question is: why didn't you hotfix this one, as you have many other times? Note that I am not demanding anything, I am asking.

Exactly like OP.

Cheers,

Don't let those haters get you down, G, that's my job :D

I still find the idea of not playing at all due to updates weird (and TBH dumb).

The only version that has been "unplayable" in the past three months was the one I mentioned above with the infinite loop issue, and that was fixed in 2-3 days.

If it makes you feel better, the 7-1 is stable and playable. The thing about this mod that you don't seem to get is that there will continue to make changes. The mod is alive and being worked on constantly. If you are waiting for a "final" version, you may be waiting till after civ 6 comes out or if G gives up.

Great Diplomats not building embassies != gamebreaking. Sorry, but that's a little dramatic.

This was a holiday weekend. I decided to enjoy the weekend with my family.

Ultimately, I don't need to explain myself, and I'm not keen on the demanding attitudes on display in this thread. I work on the mod when I have time.

First, some people just don't have the time; so, your "dumb" assertion may easily become a "lazy" assertion against yourself. ;)

Second, we all know how the mod works. The OP referred not to a "change", but to a gamebreaking bug (especially because of CSD). I don't want to start a game where I am guaranteed to win the diplo minigame without any effort whatsoever. That's different from balance changes.

Nobody is demanding. I fail to see any demand anywhere (nor the attitude). And you, as the author of CSD, know that your AI does not use GDs for embassies only; I have seen it get a grit on CS using GD that were hard to counter (kudos for that), so yes, the bug is "callitwhateveryouwant" breaking. Sorry.

Then again, nobody is demanding. You could abandon the project altogether right now and nobody has the right to say anything. We know that. Enjoy your own time as much as you want and deserve. Nothing to do with the legitimate question and concern of the OP.

The AI is able to use GDs for missions, just not for embassies. It is not as big of a deal as it sounds. In any case, I consider intimations that the current mod is unplayable as a tacit demand. And why wouldn't I? Saying something that was playable is now 'unplayable' implies that it needs to be fixed ASAP.
