is the gap between King and Emperor huge?

After two years or so of constant emperor gameplay, recently I decided to jump to immortal and I'm liking it. Doesn't feel that much harder than emperor to be honest. The most noticeable difference for me is that I sometimes lose projects where as in emperor they were guaranteed wins.

As a long time Prince player, I steamrolled one King game and have been on Emporer since. Jump in!

I'd have to agree totally. I just switched up and am on the 2nd Emperor game. The first I won easily and thought I must have fluked it- I checked to make sure it was indeed Emperor.

2nd game is no different really- it is very much like King.

I'm confused how you can have a late classical era.

I don't think he means a late classical start, but an ancient era start where he doesn't catch up to the AI in tech until he's in the late Classical Era (i.e., he's researched some of the later (second-tier) Classical Era techs, like Philosophy, Currency and Iron Working, as contrasted with his only having researched early (first-tier) Classical techs, like Construction, Mathematics and Horseback Riding).

So,

I did the jump. I never lost a game on King. Yesterday I lost my first game. Emperor is MUCH harder than King, I am afraid to say. The reason is because you cannot grab all the wonders you want: you have to plan way ahead. Also, the AI is much tougher on the war side (more units, WAY more units). So it is harder to plan each turn properly.

I had a very relaxed approach on King and did not think about the victory conditions until I started playing. I did this because I play with everything random, including personalities for AI. I think is much more interesting this way (aggressive Brazil, tamed Shaka, for example:crazyeye:). I could, for instance, go Tradition + Liberty + Aesthetics + Rationalism and still have enough culture to buy 14000 cultural points policies in 20 turns or less and win a Domination victory! Now it is impossible.

However, I am actually happy! The reason is because that gave me a reason to keep playing the game. :D

Now, if I can only figure out how to go for a domination victory using Honor, that would be good.

Thanks guys:goodjob:

Same feeling. I recovered the sensation when I click on «Next turn» «Do I did all the right things». Sometimes enraging when AI finish World Wonder or destroy my plan.

Thanks too guys.

I go for GL, get it done around t40-45. Will it be done by then on King and emporor?

On King you can easily get GL. On the Emperor game I just lost I did it on turn 81 actually. The other CIVs were probably having issues with something but it was a 4 CIV game. With more than 8 CIVs I expect GL to go by turn 48. If you can get GL on turn 45 that might be doable but you need a pretty good start for that.

Thanks, that's pretty much it. Just semantics, but I meant:

early era: one or two first level techs of that era
middle era: three or more first level and a second level tech of that era
late era: multiple second level techs of that era, usually implying a beeline to a tech of the next era with a heavy prereq load (i.e. civil service)

in reference to game progression, not advanced starts.
