Is the strategy guide any good?

Is it worth buying? I enjoy civ a lot and I like reading the different takes and strategies of the game, is this installment of the strategy guide worth the $$$?

I've found that sites like this one and Appolyton are far more valuable than a strategy guide personally.

Harry_P I agreed with you. They are a lot of precious informations right here.
I've bought the CIV Official Strategy guide at amazon.co.uk and I will have it in a couple of days. I will tell you if the information are interesting.
For me, it's help you remerbering all the link between Technologies, Improvement,units, ....

Ive thought about getting the guide also, although if the civilopedia was better arranged it would be fine.
For example, in my last game towards the end I realized the egyptians were approaching a spacerace victory. I knew I would never be able to get my military up to strength enough to take them out. So I thought I would try for a permanent alliance since I had been friendly to them the whole game.
The civilopedia gave me very limited info on what to do to get a permanent alliance. Finally after trying everything I could think of (and eventually losing), I realized that I needed to select the alliance option at the beginning of the game. No where in the civilopedia did it say this.
Anyways, I agree that a lot of good info is found here on the forums.

I have the strategy guide and have read the first 1/3 so far. It only includes a rehash of the game rules and some VERY basic tips. No where near the level of this forum.

Unless it gets a lot better in the later chapters it will be a big waste of money.

Please do let us know! Heard one of the beta testers took part in writing it, forgot his name, so I hope it will be better then the normal guides written by people who are not really interested in the game.

The first part being for beginners is no surprise, but I hope it goes deeper later on.

How's the layout? Handy? fullcolor? ect.

I do not have time to read it as I receive this morning just before leaving my house and go to work...
