often I find the puzzle is not so much where the first city should go as finding as good spots for the second and third. With the FPs beckoning for city number two, seems settling on the stone is the goto opening.
This game is at immortal. If I open the WB save as a scenario can I choose my own level? I suppose I'd better go try
Supposing the dry corn is the only tile that can be farmed from the Stone what to build and tech? A 10 turn worker is nice but a bit wasted if all he can do is farm one tile. I suppose I might just avout have mining if I go Ag and then Mining but BW is a lotta turns for him to have nothing to do. Go for another settler?
Because of EXP, it should be a 9 turn worker I think? And that should still be achievable flicking between the oasis - for the commerce - and a forest tile for the EXP bonus. Working the oasis while improving the corn should all add up to very nice early tech pace and you can mine two gold mines so I don’t think you’ll have many idle worker turns!
@Mr_Trotsky you are quite right, I forgot that working the gold could cut down the time to BW considerably. I do like the coastal PH 2N 1W of start too. Clams aren't exciting but are food, leverage Izzy's starting tech and allow the city to grow to size 2 before producing a worker with a lot more turns to get in desired techs for him to do stuff. I may play both as well as I can to compare
@pigswill I did. Got to 1595 and 17 cities + 3 vassals v 1 civ with 2. I have over 40 conquistadors to which thye have no answer so I kinda feel it is won. I much prefer the start to an endgame. Hence my question on the Justinian NC 314 about how to finish that game.
Playing this one too, though don't really think of myself as an immortal player.
Spoiler:
Settled on gold. Got six cities, pyramids. Slowly wended my way to conquistadors in 840ad. 20 HAs to promote and no GM for TM.
edit: did however get a GE to rush Taj.
I’m new to the forum, been lurking for a bit, saw this game and thought I might check it out since I don’t think I’ve never built citadels which could be fun. This is also my first game on immortal, but the start is very strong so maybe a good map to try.
Spoiler300AD :
I got the pyramids and built my five cities on my little peninsula. Just got engineering and now I’ll build some citadels and then go slavery and build an army. Probably pulled the trigger on the golden age a bit late, but I kinda like the slow-build citadels with boosted production. I haven’t done much engineering warfare before so I’m not too familiar with the ins and outs here.
SpoilerFriends :
I gave Tokugawa the beautiful city of Santiago and now he’s my best friend and then my religion (from Code of Laws) spread to him to cement the relationship. So I think I’ll attack Mali first and maybe leave my brothers and sisters of the faith for the end.
SpoilerEnemies :
Huayna Capac is getting big and threatening and has all the wonders and and techs which is scary.
All out war next so we’ll see how that goes. I’m looking forward to the city raider three trebuchets.
