is there a way to play civ 3 in a window ?

The only way I have heard it done it to play the game through a terminal session on another computer.

The way I do it is if i want to do something like surf the internet while playing CIV. I hit the windows key which brings up the start menu. It makes civ a taskbar item. I do my think and click on the task icon to continue playing civ.

Are you looking at having two programs running at the same time?
In that case, after Civ is up and running, hit the Windows Icon on your keyboard.
This will give you the ability to start another program. After you have the other program running that you want, it's just a matter of pressing [Alt]+[Tab] to switch between programs.
If you want to run another program, press the Windows Icon again. (This will also give you access to the Quick Launch toolbar.)

Or were you looking at a resizeable Window frame? You might be able to do that using the Run command from your Start menu, but I haven't tried....

Sorry to not be more helpful, but there is another thread concerning the .ini file. I believe you can change/add a line in the .ini file to allow you to run Civ in a window.

Might of been in the C3C forum.

Sorry, inudog, but Civ3 is a "full-screen" application. You can ALT-TAB between it and other running applications, but it always wants the full screen when it has control.

You may be possibly referring to the options for using a fixed resolution. If you set your monitor's resolution very high, and then set Civ's resolution to it's lowest setting (1024x768), it *might* appear as a centered "window" on your screen, but it is not a window in the true sense of the word.
