is there a way to turn off autosaves?

The computer I am playing on gets really slow past the midgame. If I could turn off autosaves I think it would speed up a bit in between turns.

Open your Civilization4.ini file (in My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\) and set the autosave frequency line to zero. You'll regret it if your system crashes after an hour or two though

Ruther than turning it off, set it to autosave less often (maybe every 10th turn).

hmmm, could you post the path to the ini file. I am having some trouble finding it.

No problem. C:/Documents and Settings/*YOUR NAME*/My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/. It's named CivilizationIV.ini.
