Is there an order I should play these in?

Obviously there are the ones that unlock from playing others, but is there a difference in difficulty between them?

You can reduce the difficulty slightly. Barbarian Assault weakens the barbarians in other scenarios, and I think the one after it (Gates of Hell? Can't remember...) reduces the power of the infernals in other scenarios.
