Is There Any Way Out of Unending Turn Time?

By that I mean when the game goes into a never ending "Please wait" loop. I've tried clicking on units to move them hoping that would break the cycle, saving and restarting but nothing I can dream of seems to work.

Do you have any secrets you'd like to share that might work?

(Yes, this game is one where I thought I had a good chance of winning and it has gone into the loop a turn before I build the Statue of Liberty. This isn't the only game I've had this happen though).

Do you have "single player auto end turn" toggled in options from game menu?

I have it turned off. Are you suggesting it should be turned on- I am willing to give it a shot.

I have tried reloading the game several times and changed different methods (as in selecting researching a different technology or moving a different unit but nothing seems to work).

No, it shouldn't be toggled on. If it's toggled off you should always have the opportunity to click end turn.

Maybe I didn't understand your question. Are you saying the game is "frozen in please wait" and your automated units keep moving through successive turns? Are you saying you're stuck in "please wait" and nothing is happening?

Well, I tried it and it didn't work.

To try and explain the difficulty a little better, I finish my turn. The computer starts going through the AI's turn and it gets to a stage where a caravel belonging to China blasts a barbarian trireme. The it sits there with the globe spinning- and sits there. Nothing seems able to break the cycle to enable any move to be made or for the computer to finish the turn.

I've uploaded the game if anyone cares to try (as long as you don't laugh at my playing skills). I am playing as Sejong and the game sticks on turn 343- two turns after the save.

(Well I thought I attached the game - it seems to have disappeared. This day is not going well.)

eh, yeh. sounds like for whatever reason the game is "locking up". Are you playing a mod?

Does hitting the period key break it? That always helped me in vanilla when a unit wouldn't cycle.

I'm just playing vanilla G & K.

Louis- the period key? I'm not sure I follow what that is- is that the full stop?

Ghost Salsa, I just restarted the game 3 turns ealier- simply because that is where the auo save was. I can go back 8 turns and try I guess.

Thanks for the help but no dice. I went back 8 turns and the dynamics were different- Germany didn't declare war etc but the game still locked up. I tried the period (full stop) key but it made no difference.

Shame, because I think they have done some good things with G & K. What is more frustrating is that this is a new computer supposed to play the game at a fast rate. If it was an old clunker I would be more forgiving.

Thanks again. I'll report it as a bug.

This happened to me once, but in my case I was able to re-load from the last autosave & finish the game with no problems.

This or something similar has been happening to me a lot. Usually seems to happen if the last unit in the 'queue' is involved in combat: the fight animation plays and the button changes to 'next turn' but clicking on it does nothing (other than the little click noise). Selecting another unit seems to sort it out for me. The auto-end-turn option doesn't seem to have any effect on this problem.

Go back to reload the game but before you do turn off unit animations and see if you can play on. Also next game you start toggle for the random seed (?) so if this happens again your restart may get you past the point that is freezing your game.

Suggesting this because setting a random seed at restart has been a "cheat" used in Civ for restarting games after some of the aggrevating sitituations that have come up during games,i.e. Spearman killing Tank.
