Probably because the harbors screw nearly every type of trade, like already mentioned in the thread.
For further investigations we'd need a savegame.

Unfortunately I don't have this old save anymore.

However, it frequently happens that earth trade roads stop abruptly without apparent reason (no pillage, no foreign units, no territory interruptions on these roads) ! Any idea ?

When you build a harbour you can get a message that the trade route has been broken. This is the land connection that is being 'lost' when the harbour route is replacing it.
