is VP fundamentally the same game as vanilla, or is it really a completely different game?

Is it true that in Civ6, AI doesn't even need to manage properly cities and produce units, because a game script will spawn units for them and give them resources?

I know that civ 6 gets a lot of criticism here ( which it deserves in many cases, especially with it's AI) but no, this isn't true. Don't mean to offend, but this kinda sounds like some rumor I'd hear on an elementary school playground lol. You can see what cities produce in civ 6 if you have enough Intel. As much as Fraxis sucks with their AI, I don't know if they could make it that much worse. At least I hope not...

I've been playing a bit of civ vi recently with gathering storm and the AI has improved since I last played about 12-18 months ago. It is still very poor, but it is definitely better, and I haven't noticed any obvious cheating.

City management left to the AI does still seem buggy, but again, it is a lot better than it was.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I heard this on this forum. Where else could that be? I rarely go to a civ subreddit.

I'd like to think if this were actually the case people wouldn't mention the AI's lack of air units as much as they have.

Unless...

Also I'd like to throw out (because I've yet to mention Civ 6 in any other capacity otherwise) that I will never get this game unless they substantially improve it's AI or they release the DLL to let modders do it. I've about had enough of strategy games and poor AI..

Nothing brings out the fanboy walls of text like a ‘should I play this’ thread. I half expect it’s game reviewers looking for easy first drafts. I mean who needs advice on what they find fun?

I don't see the issue with fanboying on something that's fanboying-worthy especially when it sounds more authentic than the meh-seen it all attitude :).
The fact that there are people still playing this mod and keeping this forum alive and active years after the release of the original game with 2 sequels released after that speaks well for how "fanboying-worthy" it is.

Who needs an advice on what they find fun?
I'm not sure how long have you been on the internet but let me elaborate, most games have a fun core that appeals to a certain player base but most of the time the "fun core" is gated behind an obstacle be it a learning curve, a grind, paywall, etc. and this can be a turn off for some players hence threads like these exist on literally every game forum on the internet.

Very true :-) But I think he asked a good question about how much this mod changes the gameplay. Although later the thread shifted to weird area of comparing a mod and the original game from the quality point of view which is kind of nonsense imo. There would be no VP without the original game and if the original game was perfect (no game is and not for everyone), there would be no need for mods.
