Infantry has crossed the border.

BEIRUT, Lebanon (CNN) -- Israeli ground troops have entered southern Lebanon on a mission to destroy outposts of the militant group Hezbollah, an Israel Defense Forces spokesman told CNN early Wednesday.

The spokesman said the troops are "close to the border." No further details were immediately available.

I guess all those strikes on infrastructure were preparing for an invasion, but Dan Gillerman said on Anderson Cooper 360 that Israel did not plan to enter Lebanon.

Why trust what the Israelis say when everything they do indicates the opposite?

CNN, CNNHN, MSNBC, and FOX aren't carrying any live updates yet. They're still playing their earlier recorded shows.

Any good places to get live news feeds?

cnn international or BBC should have updates, if you can get them.

Yeah WOOO ISRAEL!!!!

Maybe they will shell Qana again.

I honestly wonder if this is more or less a symbolic rather than a strategic move.

Does Israel have the will to fight a long war anymore? Considering the number of concessions they've made to the Palestinians for the last 10 years, I don't know if they do. I guess we'll see.

What concessions?

Interesting. According to Jpost...
Notwithstanding the call-ups of reservists, the IDF is determined to avoid a major ground offensive at almost all cost, assessing that the casualties of such an offensive would be extremely high, in part as a consequence of the vast amounts of explosive devices planted by Hizbullah in the northern border area.

Instead, the IDF is continuing to rely overwhelmingly on air power, with the aim to clear by Saturday all vestiges of Hizbullah infrastructure from a buffer zone one kilometer deep along the entire border. Anyone who entered that zone would be doing so at risk of his life.

As long as they restrerain themselves to actualy killing militants and not massacering civllians as they have been doing this is good.

I am very annoyed with Israel, i hope that they don't think the populace will greet their invasion with a smile on their face. What a dumb and pointless way of showing their strength :( they will gain nothing and are losing any moral support whatsoever.

This is NOT an invasion!

This is only to demolish the Hizballah outposts on the border/

If you enter my country to demolish some houses, without my authority, you are technically invading, if you are bombing infrastructures in my country, thay is declaration of war. Do you think the Lebanese care that Israel says their goal is not an act of war? They bloody hate you for the feces that you are putting them through.

I'm sorry. WHen the first bullet was fired by Hizballah towards Israel a few days after the Israeli withdrawal to the internationally recognized border, Israel got it's casus belli. The Lebanese have nothing to complain about. They had six years to dismantle Hizballah.

The Lebanese are not the Hizbollah, nor do they have the ability to dismantle institution of Hizbollah which is highly funded and supported by Syria. The government of Lebanon is also strongly influenced by syria. Why don't Israel attack Syria instead. We all know who the enemy behind the curtains is. WHy not bomb Iran?
