This is actually an issue with Civ IV but since C2C is the ony way I play it anymore, I thought I'd ask here. I like to use bombers to reduce city defenses, destroy an enemies improvemenst, etc. but I find it odd that you can only use bombers (any aircraft actually) from your own cities. Is there some way to build airbases so you can launch air attacks against enemies? If I'm at war and the other civ is in the middle of another continent, aircraft are useless. I realize this is probably for game balance, but can you imagine that in real life? "Well we can't bomb the Nazis because they're out of operational range!"

Well I'm pretty sure that aircraft can also be based in forts, as well as friendly cities. There is also a few promotions that increase operation range. Heh heh, well you know what happens when their out of range, you can't bomb them!

Not sure about the forts ( long time since I had this problem... I usally establish a beachhead and bomb from there). But you can use aicraft carriers to get at least some air support in.

i think in vanilla BTS and also CSC (at least) version 21 it was possible to base aircrafts on forts. Which is kind of stupid is you ask me... why would a fort built in ancient times have an airfield? Same thing with bunkers, you can base your aircrafts there but... why? :P

Because it is simpler to implement than adding an airfield.:mischief: Or more probable no one has felt strongly enough about it to change it.

You could simply rename the bunker to militarybase and disable the ability of the fort to base airunits at

I use aircraft carriers but I don't think there's any that allow the use of bombers. I usually don't think about forts but I'll try them in my current game and see how it works.

Forts can visibly be seen to upgrade as time goes on and once aircraft are earned, they visually include an airfield so they seem to make sense to me as they can hold your bombers and missiles. No problems here with that.

Though I do miss seeing bombers being allowed on carriers... would be nice if they just cost an extra passenger slot to balance them out. Perhaps, too, we need an event that can very infrequently trigger when a plane is used from a carrier that represents a failed landing. This could be more dangerous for bombers and a cause for reluctance to utilize them in this way.

I would say we need new tags to say what categories of units a carrier (or transport really) can accept (by combattype maybe?), and then recategorise some fighters/bombers into different categories. That way as your tech advances you can build multi-role aircraft (aka small bombers) that fit on carriers, and/or more advanced and larger carriers that can host larger planes.

I think you are correct in the method. We would have to keep the promotions up to date as well since they are assinged by combat class.
