Hi guys. I bought a cheap Toshiba laptop for work yesterday & tried to instll Civ4 on it but am having some issues. I'm not really very tech oriented, so maybe it's just my computer specs. Looking at them, would you think it should be able to run it?

Intel Pentium Dual-Core Mobile Processor T3400
2GB
250GB HD
Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M
& it's running Vista.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Getting the "Shader" error first, the when I DL'ed the 1.74 patch it kept telling me to insert the correct disc even though disc 2 was already in.

Also, I went to systemrequirementslab last night & it said the video card was inadequate. But who knows?

I think you need to put disk 1 in.
also, make sure your copy of windows, drivers, and directX are all up to date.

Well, I updated directX last night, but my disc 1 is labeled "Install" & disc 2 is labeled "Play". Where do you suggest I get the other DL's?

Thanks

  • you can make sure windows is up to date by running windows update. (Start>All Programs>Windows Update)
  • go here and download the most up to date drivers for your integrated graphics card
  • disk 1 is the "play" disk for my copy of Civ IV, so try it as I may have been mislabeled

Tried it again w/ no luck. I updated to Vista 8.0, but it won't let me update my graphics card. Any other suggestions or do you think that video card is just too weak?

That link won't allow me to DL. It keeps giving me this message:

Driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain appropriate DL from computer manufacturer

Every time I try to find a Toshiba driver update, it sends me to some 3rd party that they want $30 to sign up for.

Lame
