It all goes horribly wrong

It all comes down to a matter of style which form of government you use after despotism. I like to switch to Monarchy as early as I can but I personally would rather go with communism than fundamentalism. Its just a thing I have with taking away all people's rights to their feelings--even if artificial. Call me crazy but it almost feels like cheating to me

yep me too the first thing that i do, is go to monarchy, then to comunism and if i'm no so backword i never go to democracy, but at the end fundamentalism is the best :) when u want to have long lasting fight with enemies...
ye ofcourse i'd like to be democrate, but AI always doesn't like me :P, and all alive computer players always goes to an alliance against me...

I see my fundamentalist government as one who rules over a nation that wants to be there. If they don't like my government, my people could emigrate to another civilizatioin. Obviously, though, they like my goverment.

Welll. answering to the question that started this thread, I would say that:

When you create Monarchy, change your government to Monarchy. When you develop Communism, change to Communism. :king:

Always keep your technological development levels high. So you will always have modern armies with good hi-tech weapons. :scan:

Then, you do not need to create a huge army when you go to war. Also, try to use some strategy instead of huge armed forces.

Focus on emey cities. You do not need to destroy all enemy units in a battle. It's preferable that you take one of his cities. The enemy will both be intimidated and ask for peace, and his units that were supported by the taken city will disappear. :goodjob:

Forget about huge low-tech armies. They just cost too much and don't win the war.

When you are in a time of peace, build some defensive units into your cities and change your government to Republic. Build temples, cathedrals and coliseums so you will appease the people and avoid rebellions. When in peace, invest even heavier resources on techonology.

If you do everything right, when a war time comes, you'll have your Dragoons facing enemy Horsemen. Or Armors facing Knights. It will be easy to win even with a small army. Use your strategy.

I never turn my government to Democracy. The risk of overthrown scares me. When you reach a respectable stand of power and peace, turn to Republic and build Women's Suffrage. You'll have your units free to fight in enemy soil.

When you reach the end of technological research chain (Future techs), change your government to Fundamentalist. Then you can build a gigantic cheap hi-tech army that will not cost you popularity. And win any war that comes.

I usually follow that system. And I rarely lose at King level.
:king:

"Phant's mention on MGE (stands for Multi-player Gold Edition) reminds me. Shyco said,

but i have the russians on my island which is quite big, i make peace but then 2 turns later they are at war with me no matter how many times i make peace.

Sounds like MGE to me! You might want to locate the 2.42 patch... I tried it and it changed my life:) In MGE veeryone hates you and will go to war for no reason at all, even if youy give them gifts and whatnot. In 2.42, you can actually make friends and allies, especially if you are not too big...
