"It sure looks like Civilization 7 is getting underway at Firaxis" - PcGamesN

Of course Civ 7 is underway. It has been for at least one year now, if not more. NFP "buyers" financed it.

Anton is the lead.

Why is the word 'buyers' in quotation marks? I bought the NFP but I'm not actually a buyer? Did you imply that people who pirated the NFP have financed the development of Civ 7? I'm utterly confused : D

If the Job is for a Narrative Lead, then Firaxis sure doesn't want to leave that niche for Humankind.

Humankind was promised to be more of a Story, a Journey through Time, that shapes the Story of the Game. But it didn't felt much different from the Civ Games in that regard, although Diplomacy is more engaging and dynamic in Humankind and the Events were also nice (they just don't leave the impressions, but are easily forgettable). (I haven't played the Game myself, I'm just speaking of my Impressions from the Streams of Youtubers that I've watched. So I could be wrong about all of that. I stand to be corrected)

If that's the case, then I guess Firaxis want to jump on that, before it's too late. (could it be possible that we get an Event System in Civ7, I mean apart from Disasters?)

Narrative design is a bog-standard game development role. There's absolutely nothing to gleam about the game from the fact that they are hiring for a narrative lead.

True, but if Civ7, as claimed, has already been started working on, wouldn't it be too late to hire for that Job at this point? I mean unless it's for something new that they want to include but never had worked on before.

Not at all. Putting aside the fact that no one really knows how far in development Civ 7 actually, hiring in game development can often occur in bursts, including when the project enters its last phases. You don't need someone who, say, helps write the scripts for the cinematics if you're just working on getting the game systems and art direction established. Another possibility is they had an existing narrative lead but that person is leaving, so someone needs to take over the role.

Yeah, that's possible. Thanks for the Insights.

I was also thinking this as a possible reason for the hiring.

Doesn't that other not to be mentioned game come out in a week or so? Might be smart of Firaxis to announce CiVII then to get some of that attention/publicity.

I know it's just corporate buzz talk, but "passion for world history," alongside the hiring of Andrew Johnson for writing and history consulting, feels really promising to me. It's nice to know the franchise has taken history more seriously as it's developed...especially when you compare it to the dark days of Civ1 and Civ2 and their oh-so-historical gems like "Shakala." *shudders*

As pokiehl says, it's a standard role, which basically is about atmosphere https://intogames.org/role/narrative-designer/ . They could be working simply on interesting scenarios, well designed leaders, and other things.

If anyone here is on Twitter, then please help us get hashtag #civ7 going :D https://twitter.com/civfanatics/status/1427013564125138944 .

My initial impressions would be for something like an opening cinematic to a game, given the story-like feel from the ones I've seen.

https://www.pcgamesn.com/marvel-midnight-suns/release-date new Firaxis game is a Marvel game.
The articles which triggered this thread are about a job position which requires knowledge about world history.
I don't think much of that is needed for a Marvel game...

Yeah there's "several new Firaxis announcements" this year, first of them this.
It's designed by Jake Solomon of Xcom game, so new Xcom is out of question.

Makes Civ VII announcement likely in my book!
